Asymptotic behavior of intermediate points in the differential mean value theorem of divided differences with repetitions

By the explicit representation for the divided differences with repetitions involving cycle index of symmetric groups, this paper deals with the asymptotic behavior of the intermediate point of the mean value theorem of divided differences with repetitions. Our results generalize some recent interesting results such as the asymptotic expansions of the immediate points of the Taylor formula and the differential mean value theorem of divided differences with distinct points.     

Distributional solutions of Burgers' equation and intrinsic regular graphs in Heisenberg groups

In the present paper we will characterize the continuous distributional solutions of Burgers' equation as those which induce intrinsic regular graphs in the first Heisenberg group H¹≡R³, endowed with a left-invariant metric d_∞ equivalent to its Carnot-Carathéodory metric. We will also extend the characterization to higher Heisenberg groups Hn≡R2n+1.     

What is control of turbulence in crossed fields?

Convective instability in the cross-field system of thermonuclear reactors can be overridden by poloidal drifts. While in crossed fields, a long-time, large-scale turbulent regime, in which the eddies of some particular size are destined to persist longer than usual, would come into being. Perhaps, we may keep such vortexes using them as tools for maintaining the stability of still an illusory construct of plasma fusion.

In this paper, we show that all the nontrivial valuations on surfaces can be given by the infinite sequences of blowing-ups, and give the process of blowing-ups.     

Synthesis and characterization of a methacrylate polymer with side chain ketone and its derivatives

A new type of methacrylate monomer,2-(4-benzoylphenoxy)-2-oxoethyl methylacrylate(BOEMA) was synthesized.The radical homopolymerization of BOEMA was performed at 65℃in a 1,4-dioxane solution with benzoyl peroxide as an initiator.The oxime and thiosemicarbazone derivatives of poly[2-(4-benzoylphenoxy)-2-oxoethyl methylacrylate]poly(BOEMA) were prepared with hydroxylamine hydrochloride,and thiosemicarbazone hydrochloride, respectively.The monomer and its homopolymer were characterized with Fourier transform infrared and NMR techniques. The thermal stabilities of poly(BOEMA) and its derivatives were investigated with thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry.The ultraviolet stability of the polymers was compared.The antibacterial and antifungal effects of the monomer and the polymer and its derivatives were also investigated on various bacteria and fungi.The activation energies of the thermal degradation of the polymers were calculated with the Ozawa and Kissinger methods.     

Social paradoxes of majority rule voting and renormalization group

Real-space renormalization group ideas are used to study a voting problem in political science. A model to construct self-directed pyramidal structures from bottom up to the top is presented. Using majority rules, it is shown that a minority and even a majority can be systematically self-eliminated from top leadership, provided the hierarchy has a minimal number of levels. In some cases, 70% of the population is found to have zero representation after six hierarchical levels. Results are discussed with respect to the internal operation of political organizations.     

A mixed phase transition for a hierarchical spin glass

A proof of the existence of a mixed ferromagnetic (or antiferromagnetic)-spin-glass fixed point for an Ising spin-glass model on the diamond hierarchical lattice is given.     

A New Proof of the Mullineux Conjecture

Let S _d denote the symmetric group on d letters. In 1979 Mullineux conjectured a combinatorial algorithm for calculating the effect of tensoring with an irreducible S _d-module with the one dimensional sign module when the ground field has positive characteristic. Kleshchev proved the Mullineux conjecture in 1996. In the present article we provide a new proof of the Mullineux conjecture which is entirely independent of Kleshchev's approach. Applying the representation theory of the supergroup GL(m | n) and the supergroup analogue of Schur-Weyl Duality it becomes straightforward to calculate the combinatorial effect of tensoring with the sign representation and, hence, to verify Mullineux's conjecture. Similar techniques also allow us to classify the irreducible polynomial representations of GL(m | n) of degree d for arbitrary m, n, and d.
