The underground contour of an embedded rectangular dam, whose corners are rounded in accordance with curves of constant flow velocity and whose water-permeable base is underlain by a confining layer with a curvilinear roof characterized by a constant flow velocity, is constructed. The corresponding boundary value problem is solved by means of the semi-inverse use of the velocity hodograph method. The results of the numerical calculations are given and the effect of the main determining parameters of the model on the shape and dimensions of the underground contour of the dam and the curvilinear confining layer is analyzed. The limiting cases in which the water-permeable base of the dam has an unbounded thickness, namely, a streamlined apron with a horizontal insert and streamlined sheet piling (tooth), are investigated in detail.  相似文献

Summary Perchlorate is a groundwater contaminant originating from facilities that manufacture and test solid rocket fuel. A new technology, capillary electrophoresis, has the potential to measure perchlorate rapidly and inexpensively in water samples. With its speed and simplicity, this method would complement existing methods. The perchlorate anion is routinely detected in water samples using high performance ion exchange chromatography, a very sensitive yet time consuming and expensive method. In this work, the parameters for detection of perchlorate are optimized to permit detection of 0.400 mgL−1 perchlorate in a standard solution. The usefulness of this technology is demonstrated for measuring perchlorate in several ground-water samples from the Western United States. The results demonstrate that CE can be used to rapidly screen environmental samples for perchlorate at intermediate to high levels (greater than 0.400 mgL−1). This technique allows faster, easier screening of potential contamination sites and could complement the use of ion exchange chromatography for groundwater testing.  相似文献

In this article we present a stylized model for optimal management of an unconfined groundwater resource when the threat of drought exists. The drought is modeled as a stochastic event that hits at an uncertain date and two benchmark management policies are investigated: (a) A policy of optimal dynamic management ignoring the threat of drought; and (b) an economically optimal policy that accounts for the threat of a drought. We show that the optimal predrought steady‐state equilibrium stock size of groundwater under policy b is larger than that under policy (a) Furthermore, we show that an increase in the probability of a drought gives rise to two counteracting effects: One in the direction of a larger predrought steady‐state equilibrium stock size (a recovery effect) and one in the direction of a lower predrought steady‐state equilibrium stock (an extinction effect). We find that the recovery effect dominates the extinction effect. Recommendations for Resource Managers: We analyze two groundwater extraction policies that can be used when a threat of drought exists: (a) Dynamic optimal management ignoring the threat of drought; and (b) dynamic optimal management taking the threat of drought into account. We show that the predrought steady‐state equilibrium stock size of water should be larger under the policy (b) than under policy (a). This conclusion has three implications for resource managers:
  • Current groundwater management should take future extraction possibilities into account.
  • A resource manager ought to take the threat of drought into account in groundwater management.
  • A buffer stock of water should be built‐up before the drought to be drawn upon during the event.

ABSTRACT

The Lake Chad Basin (LCB) is an endorheic transboundary catchment highly vulnerable to drought. For effective groundwater management, recharge areas need identification and replenishment quantification. At present, little research exploring unsaturated zone water flow processes and groundwater recharge are available. In this study, 12 vertical soil profiles were analysed for stable water isotopes and chloride concentration to estimate evaporation and groundwater renewal. Most δ18O and δ2H isotope profiles reveal typical arid environment patterns, with maximum enrichment at depths between 2.5 and 20?cm and depletion towards the surface (atmospheric influence) and depth (mixing and diffusion). Average annual dry season evaporation rates in Salamat and Waza Logone range from 5 to 30?mm, in Bahr el Ghazal and Northern Lake Chad from 14 to 23?mm. According to the chloride mass balance (CMB), the average annual recharge rate is estimated between 3 and 163?mm in Salamat and Waza Logone and less than 1 mm in Bahr el Ghazal and Northern Lake Chad. Based on the CMB results, potential recharge sites were identified, while estimated soil evaporation corresponds to plant water use at the initial growing stage, which is an important component in irrigation water management.  相似文献

建立了测定地下水中痕量高氯酸根(ClO~4)的固相萃取-离子色谱(SPE-IC)分析方法。0.7 L水样经预处理降低主要干扰离子Cl~、CO2~3和SO2~4的干扰后,使用Cleanert PWAX弱阴离子交换固相萃取小柱对地下水中痕量(μg/L级)的ClO~4进行富集,用6 mL 1%NaOH溶液洗脱,富集液经0.45 μm水膜过滤后,用IonPac AS20阴离子分离柱、50 μL进样环、40 mmol/L KOH溶液淋洗、抑制电导检测分离分析。结果表明,地下水样品中ClO~4的方法检出限和测定下限分别为0.15 μg/L和0.60 μg/L,进样质量浓度在1~15 μg/L范围内有很好的线性关系,线性相关系数为0.9992,回收率为99.7%~100.5%;该方法经济有效,可用于地下水中痕量ClO~4的检测。利用该方法测定了哈尔滨周边部分地区地下水中ClO~4浓度,检测结果与离子色谱-质谱联用法的检测结果的相对误差为1.85%~9.24%。  相似文献

From a sector within an extended Tertiary basin 21 groundwater samples as well as 3 rock samples of a Zechslein diapir were analysed for 87Sr/86Sr-ralio. As a tendency the isotope ratio of the dissolved strontium is decreasing with increasing depth and strontium content. Furthermore, strontium content and salinity are correlated. With two exceptions the isotope data are in the range between about 0.7080 and 0.7100. Significant differences in the strontium isotope composition were found between the Zechstein salts and the typical groundwaters. This shows, that the Zechstein diapir can not be the source of the higher salinity in parts of the groundwater system. The results are discussed.  相似文献

Abstract

Di-isopropyl methylphosphonate (DIMP) and dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP), which are manufacturing by-products of. and surrogate compounds for, the nerve agents Sarin (GB) and VX, respectively, are readily quantitated at microgram per liter concentrations in contaminated groundwaters. Aqueous samples (typically 1 L) are first fortified with triethylphosphate (TEP) as a surrogate, then passed through a “sandwiched” set of three preconditioned extraction disks consisting of the following (in filtration order): (a) glass fiber filter, to remove unwanted particulate matter; (b) C18-based extraction disk, to collect DIMP; and (c) carbon-based extraction disk, to collect DMMP. The glass fiber filter is discarded; the two extraction disks are dried and extracted with a small volume of methanol. After the extract is fortified with diethyl ethylphosphonate (DEEP) internal standard, it is analyzed using a gas chromatograph equipped with a nitrogen-phosphorus detector (NPD). Quantitation of DMMP, DIMP, and TEP is performed using the method of internal standards.

The procedure was used to obtain statistically-unbiased reporting limits for a “regulatory” criterion of 0.39 μg/L and a “pump and treat” criterion of 2 μg/L for both analytes. Two standardized protocols were used to validate a detection limit of 0.20 μg/L for DMMP and 0.48 μg/L for DIMP when the regulatory criterion was used as the “target concentration.” When the “pump and treat” criterion was used as the “target concentration,” the detection limits for both DMMP and DIMP were both 2 μg/L using the same protocols as for the “regulatory” criterion. The method recovery is approximately 40–50%, based on synthetic groundwaters containing between 0.2–50 μg/L of each analyte. DIMP and DMMP are cleanly resolved from each other, the internal standard, the surrogate, and the potential interference trimethylphosphate (TMP).  相似文献

We consider the case of a water-permeable base underlain by a curvilinear confining layer with a horizontal part, whereas the remainder parts of the layer are characterized by a constant flow velocity. We obtain an analytical solution to the corresponding mixed problem of the theory of analytic functions, we present results of numerical computations and consider the limiting case studied earlier by P.
