On Selfsimilar Jordan Curves on the Plane

We study the attractors of a finite system of planar contraction similarities S _j (j=1,...,n) satisfying the coupling condition: for a set {x ₀,...,x _n} of points and a binary vector (s ₁,...,s _n ), called the signature, the mapping S _j takes the pair {x ₀,x _n} either into the pair {x _j-1,x _j } (if s _j =0) or into the pair {x _j , x _j-1} (if s _j =1). We describe the situations in which the Jordan property of such attractor implies that the attractor has bounded turning, i.e., is a quasiconformal image of an interval of the real axis.     

About the Notion of Semiring of Sets

We introduce a generalized notion of semiring and prove that all known properties that semirings have according to the old definition are preserved.     

Super-measures and finitely defined topological measures

We introduce a class of set-functions on the set of natural numbers, which are called super-measures. Super-measures are then utilized to characterize a certain class of topological measures (previously called quasi-measures, see below) which arises naturally. The members of this class of topological measures are called finitely defined, and are shown to be dense in the set of all topological measures. On products of unbounded operators

A symmetric operator X^ is attached to each operator X that leaves the domain of a given positive operator A invariant and makes the product AX symmetric. Some spectral properties of X^ are derived from those of X and, as a consequence, various conditions ensuring positivity of products of the form AX ₁ ... X _n are proved. The question of ^-complete positivity of the mapping p → Ap(X ₁,...,X _n) defined on complex polynomials in n variables is investigated. It is shown that the set ω is related to the McIntosh-Pryde joint spectrum of (X ₁,...,X _n) in case all the operators A, X ₁,...,X _n are bounded. Metric and Complete Metric σ-Frames

A -frame is a lattice in which countable joins exist and binary meets distribute over countable joins. In this paper, the category MFrm, of metric -frames, is introduced, and it is shown to be equivalent to the category MLFrm _u, of metric Lindelöf frames.Finally, it is shown that the complete metric -frames are exactly the cozero parts of complete metric Lindelöf frames.     

Ergodic-theoretic properties of certain Bernoulli convolutions

The aim of this paper is to prove some fixed point theorems which generalize well known basic fixed point principles of nonlinear functional analysis. Moreover, we investigate the class of mappings f: X→ X, where X is a Banach space, for which one of the main conditions in the metric fixed point theory, namely the condition (1), is satisfied. We obtain essential applications of this fact. All our results are illustrated by suitable examples. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.     

Uniform Continuity of a Family of Weakly Regular Set Functions on Topological Spaces

Conditions for the uniform continuity of a family of weakly regular set functions defined on an algebra of subsets of a -topological space (T,) and taking values in an arbitrary topological space are found.     

Some Properties for the Euclidean Distance Matrix and Positive Semidefinite Matrix Completion Problems

The Euclidean distance matrix (EDM) completion problem and the positive semidefinite (PSD) matrix completion problem are considered in this paper. Approaches to determine the location of a point in a linear manifold are studied, which are based on a referential coordinate set and a distance vector whose components indicate the distances from the point to other points in the set. For a given referential coordinate set and a corresponding distance vector, sufficient and necessary conditions are presented for the existence of such a point that the distance vector can be realized. The location of the point (if it exists) given by the approaches in a linear manifold is independent of the coordinate system, and is only related to the referential coordinate set and the corresponding distance vector. An interesting phenomenon about the complexity of the EDM completion problem is described. Some properties about the uniqueness and the rigidity of the conformation for solutions to the EDM and PSD completion problems are presented.
