On error bounds for lower semicontinuous functions

We give some sufficient conditions for proper lower semicontinuous functions on metric spaces to have error bounds (with exponents). For a proper convex function f on a normed space X the existence of a local error bound implies that of a global error bound. If in addition X is a Banach space, then error bounds can be characterized by the subdifferential of f. In a reflexive Banach space X, we further obtain several sufficient and necessary conditions for the existence of error bounds in terms of the lower Dini derivative of f. Connections between semidefinite relaxations of the max-cut and stable set problems

We describe links between a recently introduced semidefinite relaxation for the max-cut problem and the well known semidefinite relaxation for the stable set problem underlying the Lovász’s theta function. It turns out that the connection between the convex bodies defining the semidefinite relaxations mimics the connection existing between the corresponding polyhedra. We also show how the semidefinite relaxations can be combined with the classical linear relaxations in order to obtain tighter relaxations. This work was done while the author visited CWI, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Svata Poljak untimely deceased in April 1995. We shall both miss Svata very much. Svata was an excellent colleague, from whom we learned a lot of mathematics and with whom working was always a very enjoyable experience; above all, Svata was a very nice person and a close friend of us. In this paper, we give a construction of RDS in Galois ring by using some bent function, and obtain the equivalent relationship between RDS and a kind of bent function. At the same time, its existence is demonstrated.     

Researches of DC—Problem Under the Model S in which the Numbers of Defective Coins are not Fixed

In this paper,we research general Defective Cion Problem under the model S,i.e,the number d of Defective cions is not fixed. For d=O,1,or 2. we get some good results.     

Pure adaptive search in global optimization

Pure adaptive seach iteratively constructs a sequence of interior points uniformly distributed within the corresponding sequence of nested improving regions of the feasible space. That is, at any iteration, the next point in the sequence is uniformly distributed over the region of feasible space containing all points that are strictly superior in value to the previous points in the sequence. The complexity of this algorithm is measured by the expected number of iterations required to achieve a given accuracy of solution. We show that for global mathematical programs satisfying the Lipschitz condition, its complexity increases at mostlinearly in the dimension of the problem.This work was supported in part by NATO grant 0119/89.

EXPONENTIAL STABILITY AND PERIODIC SOLUTION OF HYBRID BIDIRECTIONAL ASSOCIATIVE MEMORY NEURAL NETWORKS WITH DISCRETE DELAYS

In this paper, we study the existence, uniqueness, and the global exponential stability of the periodic solution and equilibrium of hybrid bidirectional associative memory neural networks with discrete delays. By ingeniously importing real parameters di > 0 (i = 1,2, …, n) which can be adjusted, making use of the Lyapunov functional method and some analysis techniques, some new sufficient conditions are established. Our results generalize and improve the related results in [9]. These conditions can be used both to design globally exponentially stable and periodical oscillatory hybrid bidirectional associative neural networks with discrete delays, and to enlarge the area of designing neural networks. Our work has important significance in related theory and its application.     

PERSISTENCE AND GLOBAL STABILITY FOR TWO-SPECIES NONAUTONOMOUS PREDATOR-PREY SYSTEM WITH DIFFUSION AND TIME DELAY

In this paper, a non-autonomous predator-prey model with diffusion andcontinuous time delay is studied, where the prey can diffuse between two pat-ches of a heterogeneous environment with barriers between patches, but for thepredator, the diffusion does not involve a barrier between patches, further itis assumed that all the parameters are time-dependent. It is shown that thesystem can be made persistent under some appropriate conditions. Moreover,sufficient conditions that guarantee the existence of a unique periodic solutionwhich is globally asymptotic stable are derived.
