We study the Jacobi osculating rank of geodesics on naturally reductive homogeneous manifolds and we apply this theory to the 3-dimensional case. Here, each non-symmetric, simply connected naturally reductive 3-manifold can be given as a principal bundle M3(κ,τ) over a surface of constant curvature κ, such that the curvature of its horizontal distribution is a constant τ>0, with τ2≠κ. Then, we prove that the Jacobi osculating rank of every geodesic of M3(κ,τ) is two except for the Hopf fibers, where it is zero. In this paper we derive a relationship of the leading coefficient of the Laurent expansion of the Ruelle zeta function at s=0 and the analytic torsion for hyperbolic manifolds with cusps. Here, the analytic torsion is defined by a certain regularized trace following Melrose [R.B. Melrose, The Atiyah-Patodi-Singer Index Theorem, Res. Notes Math., vol. 4, A.K. Peters, Ltd., Wellesley, MA, 1993]. This extends the result of Fried, which was proved for the compact case in [D. Fried, Analytic torsion and closed geodesics on hyperbolic manifolds, Invent. Based on linearized equations of the theory of elastic stability of straight composite bars with a low shear rigidity, which
are constructed using the consistent geometrically nonlinear equations of elasticity theory for small deformations and arbitrary
displacements and a kinematic model of Timoshenko type, exact analytical solutions of nonclassical stability problems are
obtained for a bar subjected to axial compression and torsion for various modes of end fixation. It is shown that the problem
of direct determination of the critical parameter of the compressive load at a given torque parameter leads to transcendental
characteristic equations that are solvable only if bar ends have cylindrical hinges. At the same time, we succeeded in obtaining
solutions to these equations in terms of wave formation parameters of the bar; these parameters, in turn, enabled us to find
the parameter of the critical load at any boundary conditions. Also, an algorithm for numerical solution of the problems stated
is proposed, which is based on reducing the problems to systems of integroalgebraic equations with Volterra-type operators
and on solving these equations by the method of mechanical quadratures (finite sums). It is demonstrated that such numerical
solutions exist only for certain ranges of parameters of the bar and of the parameter of torque. In the general case, they
can not be obtained by the numerical method used. It is also shown that the well-known solutions of the stability problem
for a bar subjected to torsion or to compression with torsion are in correct.

A general analysis of special classes of symmetric two-tensor on Riemannian manifolds is provided. These tensors arise in connection with special topics in differential geometry and analytical mechanics: geodesic equivalence and separation of variables. It is shown that they play an important role in the theory of correspondent (or equivalent) dynamical systems of Levi-Civita. By applying some new developments of this theory, it is shown that the recent notions of cofactor and cofactor-pair systems arise in a natural way, as non-Lagrangian systems having a Lagrangian equivalent. This circumstance extends the Hamiltonian methods, including the separation of variables of the Hamilton–Jacobi equation, to a special class of nonconservative systems. In this extension the case of indefinite metrics, may occur. Let I: be a given bounded image function, where is an open and bounded domain which belongs to n. Let us consider n=2 for the purpose of illustration. Also, let S={xi}i be a finite set of given points. We would like to find a contour , such that is an object boundary interpolating the points from S. We combine the ideas of the geodesic active contour (cf. Caselles et al. [7,8]) and of interpolation of points (cf. Zhao et al. [40]) in a level set approach developed by Osher and Sethian [33]. We present modelling of the proposed method, both theoretical results (viscosity solution) and numerical results are given.

We study the extension generated by the -coordinates of the -torsion points of an elliptic curve over a function field of characteristic . If is a non-isotrivial elliptic surface in characteristic with a -torsion section, then for 11$"> our results imply restrictions on the genus, the gonality, and the -rank of the base curve , whereas for such a surface can be constructed over any base curve . We also describe explicitly all occurring in the cases where the surface is rational or or the base curve is rational, elliptic or hyperelliptic.

It is shown that, depending upon the orientation of the end tangents t0,t1 relative to the end point displacement vector p=p1–p0, the problem of G1 Hermite interpolation by PH cubic segments may admit zero, one, or two distinct solutions. For cases where two interpolants exist, the bending energy may be used to select among them. In cases where no solution exists, we determine the minimal adjustment of one end tangent that permits a spatial PH cubic Hermite interpolant. The problem of assigning tangents to a sequence of points p0,...,pn in R3, compatible with a G1 piecewise-PH-cubic spline interpolating those points, is also briefly addressed. The performance of these methods, in terms of overall smoothness and shape-preservation properties of the resulting curves, is illustrated by a selection of computed examples. 相似文献
