Studies on the Synthesis and Antiproliferative Activities of 13‐cis‐Retinoyl Sugar Derivatives

New retinoyl sugar derivatives of 13‐cis‐retinoic acid were synthesized in three ways in this paper in order to enhance pharmacal effects, especially antiproliferative activities of 13‐cis‐retinoic acid. Their structures were confirmed by IR, ¹H‐NMR, ¹³C‐NMR, and MS spectra and their antiproliferative activities were determined in vitro using human cancer lines. Results showed that some compounds possessed potential antitumor activities.     

Efficient Preparation of Hybrid Linear‐Branched Esters of PEG‐PEE Derivatives

A simple and efficient preparation of a number of hybrid linear‐branched PEG esters are described. The polymers are generated by direct coupling of PEG–carboxylic acids and a variety of pentaerythritol ethoxylates using carbon tetrabromide catalyst.     

Synthesis of Per- and Poly-Substituted Trehalose Derivatives: Studies of Properties Relevant to Their Use as Excipients for Controlled Drug Release

Per- and poly-substituted oligosaccharide derivatives, with trehalose cores, have been prepared and assessed for their potential for use as excipients in controlled-release formulations. The synthesized compounds, generally with acyl and amido substituents, included 6,6′-N,N′ -diamido-6,6′ -dideoxy-α,α -trehalose derivatives, 6,6′ -bis(1,2,3,4-tetra-O-acetyl-β -D-glucopyranuronyl)-α, α -trehalose derivatives, 2,2′,3,3′ -tetra-O-acetyl-6,6′ -bis-(1,2,3,4-tetra-O-acetyl-β-D-glucopyranuronyl)-4,4′ -di-O-acyl-α,α-trehalose, 2, 2′, 3, 3′ -tetra-O-acetyl-6-(1,2,3,4-tetra-O-acetyl-β-D-glucopyranuronyl)-4,4′,6′ -tri-O-acyl-α,α-trehalose, and 2,2′,3,3′,4,4′ -hexa-O-acetyl-6,6′ -bis-(1,2,3,4-tetra-O-acetyl-6-O-succinyl-β-D-glucopyranuronyl)-α,α-trehalose. Compounds were characterized by NMR, IR, MS and optical rotations; elemental analyses; or HRMS. The compounds formed amorphous materials either on fast quenching of melts or on spray drying. Properties, used in the initial assessment of the potential as controlled-release excipients, were log₁₀ P and glass transition, T_g, values.     

Strongly internal sets and generalized smooth functions

Based on a refinement of the notion of internal sets in Colombeau's theory, so-called strongly internal sets, we introduce the space of generalized smooth functions, a maximal extension of Colombeau generalized functions. Generalized smooth functions as morphisms between sets of generalized points form a sub-category of the category of topological spaces. In particular, they can be composed unrestrictedly.     

Development of BINOL-Si complexes with large stokes shifts and their application as chemodosimeters for nerve agent

Three fluorescent BINOL-Si complexes (FS1, FS2 and FS3) were rationally designed and synthesized to detect diethyl chlorophosphate (DCP), a mimic of lethal nerve agents. These three fluorescent probes showed green, yellow and orange fluorescence, respectively. Moreover, the series of fluorescent probes has the characteristics of fast response time (≤ 4 s), low detection limit (0.0097 μmol/L), high sensitivity and naked eye detection. More important, a fiber optic sensor capable of detecting DCP vapor in real time was also prepared for the first time, the lowest detection limits (down to 4.4 ppb) were all lower than that of the IDLH (immediately dangerous to life or health) concentration of Sarin (7.0 ppb).     

Synthesis,characterization, anticancer activity,and molecular docking of some new sugar hydrazone and arylidene derivatives

New sugar hydrazone moieties, their oxadiazoline derivatives, and arylidene analogues were prepared and chemically elucidated using spectroscopic analysis, such as nuclear magnetic resonance, for hydrogen ¹HNMR, carbon ¹³CNMR, elemental analysis, and Infrared (IR). The prepared compounds were purified and tested against breast cancer cells (MCF-7). Compounds 4c, 4d, 6b, and 6d exhibited moderate to very high anti-breast cancer activity, with a percentage of inhibition of 96.19%, 93.08%, 74.33%, and 86.05% respectively; the reference 5-fluorouracil had an inhibitory percentage of 96.02%.     

An extension of Alexandrov?s theorem on second derivatives of convex functions

If f is a function of n variables that is locally L¹ approximable by a sequence of smooth functions satisfying local L¹ bounds on the determinants of the minors of the Hessian, then f admits a second order Taylor expansion almost everywhere. This extends a classical theorem of A.D. Alexandrov, covering the special case in which f is locally convex.     

Trigonometric Widths and Best N-Term Approximations of the Generalized Periodic Besov Classes BΩp,θ

In this paper,we determine the estimates exact in order for the trigonometric widths and the best n-term trigonometric approximations of the generalized classes of periodic functions BΩp,θ in the space Lq for some values of parameters p,q.     

OSCILLATION OF SOLUTIONS TO SECOND ORDER NEUTRAL PARTIAL FUNCTIONAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS

Some new oscillation criteria are established for a second order neutral partial functional differential equation.Assumptions in our theorems are less restrictive,also the proofs are simpler than those in Li and Cui [11].We remove some assumptions that are required for the related results in the previous papers,thus our results generalize and improve many known conclusions.     

Cucurbit[7]uril promoting PdCl2-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of benzyl halides and arylboronic acids in aqueous media

The research provides a novel approach for producing diarylmethane derivatives using CB[7]–NaCl–PdCl₂ catalyzed Suzuki cross-coupling reaction of benzyl chloride derivatives and arylboronic acids in ethanol aqueous solution.
