INERTIAL MANIFOLDS FOR NONAUTONOMOUS SEMILINEAR PARABOLIC PARTIAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS WITH TIME DELAYS

The present paper deals with the long-time behavior of a class of nonautonomous retarded semilinear parabolic differential equations. When the time delays are small enough and the spectral gap conditions hold, the inertial manifolds of the nonautonomous retard parabolic equations are constructed by using the Lyapunov-Perron method.     

Solutions in Sobolev spaces of vector refinement equations with a general dilation matrix

In this paper, we present a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of solutions in a Sobolev space W_p^k(ℝ^s) (1≤p≤∞) to a vector refinement equation with a general dilation matrix. The criterion is constructive and can be implemented. Rate of convergence of vector cascade algorithms in a Sobolev space W_p^k(ℝ^s) will be investigated. When the dilation matrix is isotropic, a characterization will be given for the L_p (1≤p≤∞) critical smoothness exponent of a refinable function vector without the assumption of stability on the refinable function vector. As a consequence, we show that if a compactly supported function vector φ∈L_p(ℝ^s) (φ∈C(ℝ^s) when p=∞) satisfies a refinement equation with a finitely supported matrix mask, then all the components of φ must belong to a Lipschitz space Lip(ν,L_p(ℝ^s)) for some ν>0. This paper generalizes the results in R.Q. Jia, K.S. Lau and D.X. Zhou (J. Fourier Anal. Appl. 7 (2001) 143–167) in the univariate setting to the multivariate setting. A marker method for the solution of the damped Burgers' equation

A new method for the solution of the damped Burgers' equation is described. The marker method relies on the definition of a convective field associated with the underlying partial differential equation; the information about the approximate solution is associated with the response of an ensemble of markers to this convective field. Some key aspects of the method, such as the selection of the shape function and the initial loading, are discussed in some details. Martin Boundaries of Elliptic Skew Products, Semismall Perturbations, and Fundamental Solutions of Parabolic Equations

We consider positive solutions of elliptic partial differential equations on non-compact domains of Riemannian manifolds. We explicitly determine Martin boundaries and Martin kernels for a class of elliptic equations in skew product form by exploiting and developing perturbation theory for elliptic equations and short/long-time estimates for fundamental solutions of parabolic equations.

OPTIMAL INSTAR PARASITIZATION IN A STAGE STRUCTURED HOST-PARASITOID MODEL

A stage structured host-parasitoid model is derived and the equilibria studied. It is shown under what conditions the parasitoid controls an exponentially growing host in the sense that a coexistence equilibrium exists. Furthermore, for host populations whose inherent growth rate is not too large it is proved that in order to minimize the adult host equilibrium level it is necessary that the parasitoids attack only one of the larval stages. It is also proved in this case that the minimum adult host equilibrium level is attained when the parasitoids attack that larval stage which also maximizes the expected number of emerging adult parasitoid per larva at equilibrium. Numerical simulations tentatively indicate that the first conclusion remains in general valid for the model. However, numerical studies also show that it is not true in general that the optimal strategy will maximize the number of emerging adult parasitoid per larva at equilibrium.
