This paper is the second in a series revisiting the (effect of) Faraday rotation. We formulate and prove the thermodynamic limit for the transverse electric conductivity of Bloch electrons, as well as for the Verdet constant. By considering the random migration of individuals and the period of consuming the captured nutrient, we first introduce the nonlocal delays into a bio-reactor model. The persistence of nontrivial traveling wave solutions then is proved by combining the geometric singular perturbation theory with the center manifold theorem. We present computer simulation and theoretical results for a system of N Quantum Hard Spheres (QHS) particles of diameter and mass m at temperature T, confined between parallel hard walls separated by a distance , within the range . Semiclassical Monte Carlo computer simulations were performed adapted to a confined space, considering effects in terms of the density of particles , where V is the accessible volume, the inverse length and the de Broglie’s thermal wavelength , where k and h are the Boltzmann’s and Planck’s constants, respectively. They are associated with a dramatic change in the amplitude and period of a periodic orbit within a very narrow interval of
a control parameter. It is shown numerically that canards occur in an appropriate parameter range in two- and three-dimensional
models of the platinum-catalyzed oxidation of carbon monoxide. By smoothly connecting associated stable and unstable manifolds
in an asymptotic limit, we predict parameter values at which such canards exist. The relationship between the canards and
saddle-loop bifurcations for these models is also demonstrated. Excellent agreement is found between the numerical and analytical

Singular perturbation methods, such as the method of multiple scales and the method of matched asymptotic expansions, give series in a small parameter which are asymptotic but (usually) divergent. In this survey, we use a plethora of examples to illustrate the cause of the divergence, and explain how this knowledge can be exploited to generate a 'hyperasymptotic' approximation. This adds a second asymptotic expansion, with different scaling assumptions about the size of various terms in the problem, to achieve a minimum error much smaller than the best possible with the original asymptotic series. A new perturbation method for a weakly nonlinear two-dimensional discrete-time dynamical system is presented. The proposed technique generalizes the asymptotic perturbation method that is valid for continuous-time systems and detects periodic or almost-periodic orbits and their stability. Two equations for the amplitude and the phase of solutions are derived and their fixed points correspond to limit cycles for the starting nonlinear map. The method is applied to various nonlinear (autonomous or not) two-dimensional maps. For the autonomous maps we derive the conditions for the appearance of a supercritical Hopf bifurcation and predict the characteristics of the corresponding limit cycle. For the nonautonomous maps we show amplitude-response and frequency-response curves. Under appropriate conditions, we demonstrate the occurrence of saddle-node bifurcations of cycles and of jumps and hysteresis effects in the system response (cusp catastrophe). Modulated motion can be observed for very low values of the external excitation and an infinite-period bifurcation occurs if the external excitation increases. In this paper we prove a perturbation result for a new type of eigenvalue problem introduced by D. Motreanu and P.D. Panagiotopoulos (1998). The perturbation is made in the nonsmooth and nonconvex term of a double eigenvalue problem on a spherlike type manifold considered in Multiple solutions for a double eigenvalue hemivariational inequality on a spherelike type manifold (to appear in Nonlinear Analysis). For our aim we use some techniques related to the Lusternik-Schnirelman theory (including Krasnoselski's genus) and results proved by J.N. Corvellec et al. (1993), M. Degiovanni and S.
