On Newton''s method under Hölder continuous derivative

A Mysovskii-type theorem for Newton's method under (k,p)-Hölder continuous derivative is considered in this paper. For the application studied by others, the new condition is weaker than ones in the literature. Also we prove that the optimal convergent order is p+1 for 0<p<1.     

Deviations from exact epitaxial positions in heteroepitaxy

Epitaxy provides thin films in a perfect periodic structure. In heteroepitaxy the misfit may yield perfect pseudomorphic films or relaxed films, which may show the periodicities of the substrate and the film and their combinations. Then non-periodic defects like mosaics may appear, e.g., due to dislocations. Deviations from exact epitaxial positions in strictly periodic structures can be determined from diffraction intensities. For more complex surfaces, e.g., films with defects like mosaics or large superstructures or on substrates with steps such a strict determination is not possible. From the spot profile analysis of low energy electron diffraction (LEED) or X-ray data some structural information is available for these surfaces with defects. This new type of evaluation is demonstrated with spot profile analysis of LEED (SPA-LEED) for ultrathin Pb films on Si(1 1 1)7 × 7 surface, which grow even at 25 K epitaxially in a layer-by-layer growth mode. The analysis provides the first information on deviation from the exact epitaxial positions of the surface Pb atoms. A vertical shift of domains and an inclination between domains provides an explanation of the experimental results.     

A secondary semantics for Second Order Intuitionistic Propositional Logic

In this paper we propose a Kripke‐style semantics for second order intuitionistic propositional logic and we provide a semantical proof of the disjunction and the explicit definability property. 3D building reconstruction from aerial CCD image and sparse laser sample data

An approach for 3D building reconstruction automatically based on aerial CCD image and sparse laser scanning sample points is presented in this paper. The geometry shape of a building is shown very clearly in the aerial high-resolution CCD image, so we use Laplacian sharpening operator and threshold segmentation to extract the edges of CCD image first, and then pixel connectivity is used to extract the linear features in the CCD image. Bi-direction projection histogram and line matching are proposed to extract the contours of buildings. The height of the building is determined from sparse laser sample points which are within the contour of the buildings extracted from CCD image; therefore the 3D information of each building is reconstructed. We reconstruct 3D buildings correctly by this approach using real aerial CCD and sparse laser rangefinder data.     

Multiple periodic solutions for second order systems with changing sign potential

This paper deals with the multiplicity of solutions of a second order nonautonomous system. We extend a previous result of the author relaxing the assumptions on the sign of the potential.     

Symmetrized-lexicographic order and the method of points

A variant of lexicographic order called symmetrized-lexicographic order is defined. The symmetrized-lexicographic order finds its application in the goal programming procedure called the method of points. The symmetrized-lexicographic order is shown to be representable using linear algebra and, thus, the method of points can be implemented as a linear programming problem.
