On a free group of transformations defined by an automaton

We prove that three automorphisms of the rooted binary tree defined by a certain 3-state automaton generate a free non-Abelian group of rank 3. Both authors are supported by the NSF grants DMS-0308985 and DMS-0456185. Yaroslav Vorobets is supported by a Clay Research Scholarship.     

对数似然比与整值随机变量序列的一类强律

本文引进对数似然比作为整值随机变量序列相对于服从几何分布的独立随机变量序列的偏差的一种度量,并通过限制对数似然比给出了样本空间的一个子集.在此子集上得到了一类用不等式表示的强律,其中包含整值随机变量序列与相对熵密度及几何分布的熵函数有关的若干极限性质.     

A note on conservation laws for a multiclass service queueing system with setup times

This paper derives a conservation law for mean waiting times in a single-server multi-class service queueing system (M ^X/G/1 type queue) with setup times which may be dependent on multiple customer classes and its arrival batch size by using the work decomposition property in the queueing system with vacations.     

Monoidal functors on the category of representations of a triangular Hopf algebra

Let (H,R) be a triangular Hopf algebra. The monoidal functors on the category of representations ofH is studied, and a universal quantum commutative algebraSeR(M) and a dual H°-comoduleM° for any H-moduleM with an integrale are constructed. Both constructions given here have tensor isomorphism properties. Project supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.     

On the phase space approach to complexity

We elaborate in some detail on a new phase space approach to complexity, due to Y.-C. Zhang. We show in particular that the connection between maximal complexity and power law noise or correlations can be derived from a simple variational principle. For a 1D signal we find 1/f noise, in accordance with Zhang.

Factorisation in the ring of exponential polynomials

We study factorisation in the ring of exponential polynomials and provide a proof of Ritt's factorisation theorem in modern notation and so generalised as to deal with polynomial coefficients as well as with several variables. We do this in the more general context of a group ring of a divisible torsion-free ordered abelian group over a unique factorisation domain.

     

Interdiffusion of hydroxyl groups and of doping additions between a bearing pipe and a deposited layer in billets of fiber light guides

Using Raman spectroscopy, a quantitative analysis of the distribution of OH⁻ ions on the boundary between a bearing pipe and a glass layer deposited from chlorides in billets for quartz fiber light guides is carried out. Water penetrated into the light-reflecting shell to a depth of several tenths of a millimeter, depending on the composition of the doping layer (i.e., ultimately on the temperature of the depsoition process). Banach空间值鞅不等式与弱大数定律

本文证明了Ｂａｎａｃｈ空间值鞅的一些不等式，讨论了Ｂａｎａｃｈ空间的凸性及光滑性与某些鞅不等的式的联系，给出了Ｈｉｌｂｅｒｔ空间的一个鞅不等式刻划，同时还讨论了一致Ｐ光滑空间中鞅的弱大数定律，本文的结论推广与改进了很多熟知的定理。
