Let M be an -dimensional closed orientable submanifold in an -dimensional space form . We obtain an optimal upper bound for the second eigenvalue of a class of elliptic operators on M defined by , where T is a general symmetric, positive definite and divergence-free -tensor on M. The upper bound is given in terms of an integration involving tr T and , where tr T is the trace of the tensor T and is a normal vector field associated with T and the second fundamental form A of M. Furthermore, we give the sufficient and necessary conditions when the upper bound is attained. Our main theorem can be viewed as an extension of the famous “Reilly inequality”. The operator can be regarded as a natural generalization of the well-known operator which is the linearized operator of the first variation of the -th mean curvature for hypersurfaces in a space form. As applications of our main theorem, we generalize the results of Grosjean [17] and Li–Wang [20] in codimension one to arbitrary codimension. 相似文献

In this article we consider a two-level finite element Galerkin method using mixed finite elements for the two-dimensional nonstationary incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. The method yields a $H^1$-optimal velocity approximation and a $L_2$-optimal pressure approximation. The two-level finite element Galerkin method involves solving one small, nonlinear Navier-Stokes problem on the coarse mesh with mesh size $H$, one linear Stokes problem on the fine mesh with mesh size $h << H$. A fully discrete penalty finite element method is presented for the two-dimensional time-dependent Navier-Stokes equations. The time discretization of the penalty Navier-Stokes equations is based on the backward Euler scheme; the spatial discretization of the time discretized penalty Navier-Stokes equations is based on a finite element space pair which satisfies some approximate assumption. This paper gives a thorough theoretical treatment on the adaptive quasi-likelihood estimate of the parameters in the generalized linear models. The unknown covariance matrix of the response variable is estimated by the sample. It is shown that the adaptive estimator defined in this paper is asymptotically most efficient in the sense that it is asymptotic normal, and the covariance matrix of the limit distribution coincides with the one for the quasi-likelihood estimator for the case that the covariance matrix of the response variable is completely known. 相似文献
