Decomposition of N-cyclopropyl-N-nitrosourea in the presence of reducing agents as a new way of generating the cyclopropyl radical

A new way of generating cyclopropyl radicals in the base-catalyzed decomposition of N-cyclopropyl-N-nitrosourea in the presence of organic reducing agents (1-phenylpyrazolidin-3-one and 4-methoxyphenol) was developed. The cyclopropyl radical generated under these conditions can not only abstract a proton from the substrate to give cyclopropane but also form C-C or C-Br bonds in reactions with aromatic substrates or polybromomethanes. The IINS, IR and DFT studies of hydrogen bonds in 6-Furfuryl and 6-Benzylaminopurines

FTIR and IINS spectra of 6-Furfurylaminopurine (6-FAP) and 6-Benzylaminopurine (6-BAP) taken at different temperatures have been analysed and compared with the spectra calculated by the ab initio DFT/B3LYP method and the semiempirical PM3 method in the isolated molecule approximation, for the tautomers N3-H, N7-H and N9-H, and dimers with hydrogen bonds. For 6-FAP the best agreement between the calculated and experimental (at 20 K) spectra has been found for the N9-H tautomer, whose structure was established by X-ray diffraction. For 6-BAP the analogous agreement for the N9-H tautomer structure has been poor and much better for the N7-H tautomer. The vibrational spectra calculated for dimers of the molecules studied involved in hydrogen bonds, permitted also an interpretation of the bands whose positions and FWHM in the FTIR spectra changed with temperature.     

Volatile constituents of flowers and leaves of Anthemis hyalina

The chemical composition of the essential oils of the flowers and leaves of Anthemis hyalina were analyzed by GC and GC-MS for the first time. The oils were found to contain seventy-two components. cis-Chrysanthenyl acetate (14.9% and 17.8%), camphor (11.6% and 1.7%), terpinen-4-ol (8.3% and 1.2%), germacrene-D (5.1% and 2.1%), β-caryophyllene (4.1% and 5.4%), myrcene (3.6% and 16.9%), bicyclogermacrene (3.5% and 0.9%), α-pinene (2.3% and 4.1%), cis-β-ocimene (2.1% and 4.3%) and isospathulenol (0.4% and 4.3%) were found to be the major constituents of the oils of flowers and leaves respectively. Darstellung,Eigenschaften und Kristallstruktur von Bis(phthalocyaninato)cer(IV)

Preparation, Properties and Crystal Structure of Bis(phthalocyaninato)cerium(IV) The anodic or chemical oxidation with dibenzoylperoxide of solutions of bis(phthalocyaninato)cerate(III) in dichloromethane yields selectively sparely soluble bis(phthalocyaninato)cerium(IV), [Ce(Pc(2-)) 2 ]. Green, monoclinic needles cristallize with a = 18.783(12) Å b = 18.739(16) Å c= 15.618(10) Å ß114.30(7)°; Z = 4; space group C2/c. [Ce(Pc(2–)) 2 ] is a sandwich complex in which the cerium Atom is eightfold coordinated by the isoindole nitrogens of the two staggered convex Pc-rings. The u.v.-vis., m.i.r., f.i.r. and resonance Raman spectra are consistent with the structure.     

Vibrational Spectroscopic Studies on the tn-Td-Type Mn(tn)Zn(CN)4_2C6H6 and the Chelated tn-Td-Type Zn(tn)Zn(CN)4_2C6H6 Clathrates

IR spectra of Mn(trimethylenediamine)Zn(CN)₄2C₆H₆ and IR and Raman spectra of Zn(trimethylenediamine)Zn(CN)₄_2C₆H₆ are reported. The spectral data suggest that the host frameworks of these compounds are similar to those of the tn-Td-type Cd(trimethylenediamine)M(CN)₄_2benzene (M = Cd or Hg) and the chelated pn-Td-type Cd(propylenediamine)Cd(CN)₄_1,2-dichloro-ethane clathrates, respectively.     

COMPOSITION OF THE ESSENTIAL OIL OF Haplophyllum myrtifolium

The chemical composition of the essential oil ofHaplophyllum myrtifoliumBoiss., endemic to Turkey, was examined by GC/MS. Ninety-seven compounds were characterized with linalool (12.8%), -caryophyllene (10.3 %), and methyleugenol (5.9 %) as the main constituents.     

Electrospray ionization ion-trap multistage mass spectrometric study of sodium cationized aldobiuronic and pseudoaldobiuronic acid derivatives

Fragmentation mechanisms of electrospray ionization (ESI) mass spectrometry of aldobiuronic and pseudoaldobiuronic acid derivatives were elucidated by multistage mass spectrometric (MS(n), n = 2-5) measurements of selected ions. Characteristic under the conditions of ESI-MS analysis is the production of alkali metal (Na and K) cationized adducts. The probability the of locations of Na cations in per-O-methylated compounds was proved by quantum chemical calculations, using the Jaguar program. The most probably position of alkali metal attachment is the carboxy group of the methoxycarbonyl C-5 group of the uronic acid unit. Characteristic cleavages vary according the kind of O-derivatization. In most cases they take place on the acidic part of the dimer and at the interglycosidic oxygen atom. As a result, the criteria for the differentiation of aldobiouronic and pseudoaldobiouronic acids derivatives were elucidated.     

Electroreduction of Aryldiazonium Ion at the Polar and Non-Polar Faces of ZnO: Characterisation of the Grafted Films and Their Influence on Near-Surface Band Bending

ZnO is a strong candidate for transparent electronic devices due to its wide band gap and earth-abundance, yet its practical use is limited by its surface metallicity arising from a surface electron accumulation layer (SEAL). The SEAL forms by hydroxylation of the surface under normal atmospheric conditions, and is present at all crystal faces of ZnO, although with differing hydroxyl structures. Multilayer aryl films grafted from aryldiazonium salts have previously been shown to decrease the downward bending at O-polar ZnO thin films, with Zn−O−C bonds anchoring the aryl films to the substrate. Herein we show that the Zn-polar (0001), O-polar (000 ), and non-polar m-plane (10 0) faces of ZnO single crystals, can also be successfully electrografted with nitrophenyl (NP) films. In all cases, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurements reveal that the downward surface band bending decreases after modification. XPS provides strong evidence for Zn−O−C bonding at each face. Electrochemical reduction of NP films on O-polar ZnO single crystals converts the film to a mainly aminophenyl layer, although with negligible further change in band bending. This contrasts with the large upward shifts in band bending caused by X-ray induced reduction.     

Composition of <Emphasis Type="Italic">Carlina acanthifolia</Emphasis> Root Essential Oil

The root of Carlina acanthifolia All. (Asteraceae) contained 1.0% of essential oil (expressed in g per 100 g of dried plant material). Using GC and GC/MS, nine components were identified (100% of total oil).
