The Mathai-Quillen formalism and topological field theory

These lecture notes give an introductory account of an approach to cohomological field theory due to Atiyah and Jeffrey which is based on the construction of Gaussian shaped Thom forms by Mathai and Quillen. Topics covered are: an explanation of the Mathai-Quillen formalism for finite dimensional vector bundles; the definition of regularized Euler numbers of infinite dimensional vector bundles; interpretation of supersymmetric quantum mechanics as the regularized Euler number of loop space; the Atiyah-Jeffrey interpretation of Donaldson theory; the construction of topological gauge theories from infinite dimensional vector bundles over spaces of connections.     

A symmetry of sphere map implies its chaos*

A well-known example, given by Shub, shows that for any |d| ≥ 2 there is a self-map of the sphere Sⁿ, n ≥ 2, of degree d for which the set of non-wandering points consists of two points. It is natural to ask which additional assumptions guarantee an infinite number of periodic points of such a map. In this paper we show that if a continuous map f : Sⁿ → Sⁿ commutes with a free homeomorphism g : Sⁿ → Sⁿ of a finite order, then f has infinitely many minimal periods, and consequently infinitely many periodic points. In other words the assumption of the symmetry of f originates a kind of chaos. We also give an estimate of the number of periodic points. *Research supported by KBN grant nr 2 P03A 045 22.     

The homotopy type of hyperbolic monopole orbit spaces

We prove that the space of equivalence classes of -invariant connections on some -principle bundles over is weakly homotopy equivalent to a component of the second loop space .

On a theorem of Jaworowski on locally equivariant contractible spaces

Ancel's method of fiberwise trivial relations is applied to the problem of characterization of absolute equivariant extensors. We obtain a generalization of Jaworowski's theorem on characterization of equivariant extensors lying in to the case when the space is infinite-dimensional, has infinitely many orbit types and the acting compact group is not necessarily a Lie group.

     

Spaces of Maps into Classifying Spaces for Equivariant Crossed Complexes, II: The General Topological Group Case

The results of a previous paper on the equivariant homotopy theory of crossed complexes are generalised from the case of a discrete group to general topological groups. The principal new ingredient necessary for this is an analysis of homotopy coherence theory for crossed complexes, using detailed results on the appropriate Eilenberg–Zilber theory, and of its relation to simplicial homotopy coherence. Again, our results give information not just on the homotopy classification of certain equivariant maps, but also on the weak equivariant homotopy type of the corresponding equivariant function spaces.

Lie Superalgebras Over 𝔤𝔩2

Whereas Holm proved that the ring of differential operators on a generic hyperplane arrangement is finitely generated as an algebra, the problem of its Noetherian properties is still open. In this article, after proving that the ring of differential operators on a central arrangement is right Noetherian if and only if it is left Noetherian, we prove that the ring of differential operators on a central 2-arrangement is Noetherian. In addition, we prove that its graded ring associated to the order filtration is not Noetherian when the number of the consistuent hyperplanes is greater than 1.     

Chamber structure and wallcrossing in the ADHM theory of curves, I

ADHM invariants are equivariant virtual invariants of moduli spaces of twisted cyclic representations of the ADHM quiver in the abelian category of coherent sheaves of a smooth complex projective curve X. The goal of the present paper is to present a generalization of this construction employing a more general stability condition which depends on a real parameter. This yields a chamber structure in the ADHM theory of curves, residual ADHM invariants being defined by equivariant virtual integration in each chamber. Wallcrossing formulas will be presented in the second part of this work.
