The notions of exhausters were introduced in (Demyanov, Exhauster of a positively homogeneous function, Optimization 45, 13–29
(1999)). These dual tools (upper and lower exhausters) can be employed to describe optimality conditions and to find directions
of steepest ascent and descent for a very wide range of nonsmooth functions. What is also important, exhausters enjoy a very
good calculus (in the form of equalities). In the present paper we review the constrained and unconstrained optimality conditions
in terms of exhausters, introduce necessary and sufficient conditions for the Lipschitzivity and Quasidifferentiability, and
also present some new results on relationships between exhausters and other nonsmooth tools (such as the Clarke, Michel-Penot

We consider the approximation of trigonometric operator functions that arise in the numerical solution of wave equations by
trigonometric integrators. It is well known that Krylov subspace methods for matrix functions without exponential decay show
superlinear convergence behavior if the number of steps is larger than the norm of the operator. Thus, Krylov approximations
may fail to converge for unbounded operators. In this paper, we propose and analyze a rational Krylov subspace method which
converges not only for finite element or finite difference approximations to differential operators but even for abstract,
unbounded operators. In contrast to standard Krylov methods, the convergence will be independent of the norm of the operator
and thus of its spatial discretization. We will discuss efficient implementations for finite element discretizations and illustrate
our analysis with numerical experiments.

This paper introduces a new approach to discretization of nonlinearcontrol laws with a Lipschitz property. The sampling time isdefined as a parameter, which must be selected sufficientlysmall so that the closed-loop system is stable. In contrastto similar results, the stabilizing effect of the control istaken into account. This can result in less conservative constraintson the minimum sampling frequency. The discretization techniquesare explained on a general nonlinear model and applied to thediscretization of a novel nonlinear, robust sliding-mode-likecontrol law. Similar robustness features as for continuous controlare demonstrated. Nonsmooth Lyapunov functions are used forthe discretized sliding-mode-like control introducing cone shapedregions of the state space. One of these cone shaped regionscoincides with a cone shaped layer around the sliding mode definedby the continuous sliding-mode-like control. A mathematical model of tumor growth therapy is considered. The total amount of a drug is bounded and fixed. The problem is to choose an optimal therapeutic strategy, i.e., to choose an amount of the drug permanently affecting the tumor that minimizes the number of tumor cells by a given time. The problem is solved by the dynamic programming method. Exact and approximate solutions to the corresponding Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation are found. An error estimate is proved. We investigate methods for solving high-dimensional nonlinear optimization problems which typically occur in the daily scheduling of electricity production: problems with a nonlinear, separable cost function, lower and upper bounds on the variables, and an equality constraint to satisfy the demand. If the cost function is quadratic, we use a modified Lagrange multiplier technique. For a nonquadratic cost function (a penalty function combining the original cost function and certain fuel constraints, so that it is generally not separable), we compare the performance of the gradient-projection method and the reduced-gradient method, both with conjugate search directions within facets of the feasible set. Numerical examples at the end of the paper demonstrate the effectiveness of the gradient-projection method to solve problems with hundreds of variables by exploitation of the special structure. 相似文献
