Valence states of cobalt in BaTiO3: An EPR study

A study by means of the Electron-Paramagnetic-Resonance (EPR) technique of the valence states of the cobalt ion in oxidized and reduced BaTiO₃ is presented. As a result, the identification of high-spin Co⁺ in reduced crystals was possible. The Co²⁺ centre is also discussed.     

Hydrogen bonding effects on molecular structure: crystallographic studies of barbiturates

X-ray crystal structure determinations show systematic perturbations of the order of 0.01 Å in the oxopyrimidine rings of twelve barbiturate molecules. They appear to be related to the mode of intermolecular NHβO hydrogen bonding.     

The Singularity of Kontsevich’s Solution for QH<Superscript>*</Superscript>(CP<Superscript>2</Superscript>)

In this paper we study the nature of the singularity of the Kontsevichs solution of the WDVV equations of associativity. We prove that it corresponds to a singularity in the change of two coordinates systems of the Frobenius manifold given by the quantum cohomology of CP². De Broglie Tired Light Model and the Reality of the Quantum Waves

In the early 1960s of the 20th century de Broglie was able to explain the cosmological observable red shift, without ad hoc assumptions. Starting from basic quantum considerations he developed his tired light model for the photon. This model explains in a single and beautiful causal way the cosmological redshift without need of assuming the Big Bang and consequently a beginning for the universe. Evidence coming from Earth sciences seems also to confirm these ideas and furthermore concrete proposal of laboratorial scale experiments that can test the model are reviewed.     

Variations on the warped deformed conifold

The warped deformed conifold background of type IIB theory is dual to the cascading SU(M(p+1))×SU(Mp) gauge theory. We show that this background realizes the (super-)Goldstone mechanism where the U(1) baryon number symmetry is broken by expectation values of baryonic operators. The resulting massless pseudo-scalar and scalar glueballs are identified in the supergravity spectrum. A D-string is then dual to a global string in the gauge theory. Upon compactification, the Goldstone mechanism turns into the Higgs mechanism, and the global strings turn into ANO strings. To cite this article: S.S. Gubser et al., C. R. Physique 5 (2004).

La configuration de fond pour la théorie de type IIB donnée par le conifold voilé déformé est duale à la cascade de théorie de jauge SU(M(p+1))×SU(Mp). Nous montrons que cette configuration donne une réalisation du mécanisme de (super-)Goldstone où la symètrie baryonique U(1) est brisée par la valeur moyenne dans le vide des opérateurs baryoniques. Les boules de glue pseudo-scalaires et scalaires de masse nulle résultantes sont identifiées dans le spectre de supegravité. Une D-corde est alors duale à une corde globale dans la théorie de jauge. Après compactification, le mécanisme de Goldstone devient un mécanisme de Higgs, et une corde globale devient une corde ANO. Pour citer cet article : S.S. Gubser et al., C. R. Higher-loop integrability in gauge theory

The dilatation operator measures scaling dimensions of local operator in a conformal field theory. Algebraic methods of constructing the dilatation operator in four-dimensional N=4 gauge theory are reviewed. These led to the discovery of novel integrable spin chain models in the planar limit. Making use of Bethe ansätze a superficial discrepancy in the AdS/CFT correspondence was found, we discuss this issue and give a possible resolution. To cite this article: N. Beisert, C. R. L'opérateur de dilatation mesure les dimensions d'échelles des opérateurs locaux des théories conformes des champs. Nous passons en revue les méthodes algébriques de construction de l'opérateur de dilatation pour la théorie de jauge N=4 en quatre dimensions. Ceci nous a conduit à découvrir, dans la limite planaire, de nouveaux modèles intégrables de chaînes de spin. En utilisant l'ansätze de Bethe une incompatibilité avec la correspondance AdS/CFT fut découverte, nous discutons ce problème et une résolution possible. Pour citer cet article : N. Beisert, C. R. Cohomology of line bundles on Schubert varieties: The rank two case

In this paper we describe vanishing and non-vanishing of cohomology of “most” line bundles over Schubert subvarieties of flag varieties for rank 2 semisimple algebraic groups.     

Support Varieties for Selfinjective Algebras

Support varieties for any finite dimensional algebra over a field were introduced in (Proc. London Math. Soc. 88 (3) (2004) 705–732) using graded subalgebras of the Hochschild cohomology ring. We mainly study these varieties for selfinjective algebras under appropriate finite generation hypotheses. Then many of the standard results from the theory of support varieties for finite groups generalize to this situation. In particular, the complexity of the module equals the dimension of its corresponding variety, all closed homogeneous varieties occur as the variety of some module, the variety of an indecomposable module is connected, the variety of periodic modules are lines and for symmetric algebras a generalization of Webbs theorem is true.
