We consider a shallow water equation of the Camassa–Holm type, which contains nonlinear dispersive effects as well as fourth order dissipative effects. We prove that as the diffusion and dispersion parameters tend to zero, with a condition on the relative balance between these two parameters, smooth solutions of the shallow water equation converge to discontinuous weak solutions of a scalar conservation law. The proof relies on deriving suitable a priori estimates together with an application of the compensated compactness method in the L p setting.  相似文献

For a given combinatorial graph G a geometrization (G, g) of the graph is obtained by considering each edge of the graph as a 1-dimensional manifold with an associated metric g. In this paper we are concerned with minimal isometric immersions of geometrized graphs (G, g) into Riemannian manifolds (N n , h). Such immersions we call minimal webs. They admit a natural ‘geometric’ extension of the intrinsic combinatorial discrete Laplacian. The geometric Laplacian on minimal webs enjoys standard properties such as the maximum principle and the divergence theorems, which are of instrumental importance for the applications. We apply these properties to show that minimal webs in ambient Riemannian spaces share several analytic and geometric properties with their smooth (minimal submanifold) counterparts in such spaces. In particular we use appropriate versions of the divergence theorems together with the comparison techniques for distance functions in Riemannian geometry and obtain bounds for the first Dirichlet eigenvalues, the exit times and the capacities as well as isoperimetric type inequalities for so-called extrinsic R-webs of minimal webs in ambient Riemannian manifolds with bounded curvature.   相似文献

We study a relaxation scheme of the Jin and Xin type for conservation laws with a flux function that depends discontinuously on the spatial location through a coefficient . If , we show that the relaxation scheme produces a sequence of approximate solutions that converge to a weak solution. The Murat-Tartar compensated compactness method is used to establish convergence. We present numerical experiments with the relaxation scheme, and comparisons are made with a front tracking scheme based on an exact Riemann solver.  相似文献

In several complex variables, the multivariate Padé-type approximation theory is based on the polynomial interpolation of the multidimensional Cauchy kernel and leads to complicated computations. In this paper, we replace the multidimensional Cauchy kernel by the Bergman kernel function K (z,x) into an open bounded subset of C n and, by using interpolating generalized polynomials for K (z,x), we define generalized Padé-type approximants to any f in the space OL 2() of all analytic functions on which are of class L 2. The characteristic property of such an approximant is that its Fourier series representation with respect to an orthonormal basis for OL 2() matches the Fourier series expansion of f as far as possible. After studying the error formula and the convergence problem, we show that the generalized Padé-type approximants have integral representations which give rise to the consideration of an integral operator – the so-called generalized Padé-type operator – which maps every f OL 2() to a generalized Padé-type approximant to f. By the continuity of this operator, we obtain some convergence results about series of analytic functions of class L 2. Our study concludes with the extension of these ideas into every functional Hilbert space H and also with the definition and properties of the generalized Padé-type approximants to a linear operator of H into itself. As an application we prove a Painlevé-type theorem in C n and we give two examples making use of generalized Padé-type approximants.  相似文献

Previously, we obtained a syntactic characterization for the class of complete theories with finitely many pairwise non-isomorphic countable models [1]. The most essential part of that characterization extends to Ehrenfeucht theories (i.e., those having finitely many (but more than 1) pairwise non-isomorphic countable models). As the basic parameters defining a finite number of countable models, Rudin-Keisler quasiorders are treated as well as distribution functions defining the number of limit models for equivalence classes w.r.t. these quasiorders. Here, we argue to state that all possible parameters given in the characterization theorem in [1] are realizable. Also, we describe Rudin-Keisler quasiorders in arbitrary small theories. The construction of models of Ehrenfeucht theories with which we come up in the paper is based on using powerful digraphs which, along with powerful types in Ehrenfeucht theories, always locally exist in saturated models of these theories.
