Linear recurrence relations in the algebra of matrices and applications

We study here some linear recurrence relations in the algebra of square matrices. With the aid of the Cayley–Hamilton Theorem, we derive some explicit formulas for Aⁿ (nr) and e^tA for every r×r matrix A, in terms of the coefficients of its characteristic polynomial and matrices A^j, where 0jr−1.     

On the wellposedness of constitutive laws involving dissipation potentials

We consider a material with memory whose constitutive law is formulated in terms of internal state variables using convex potentials for the free energy and the dissipation. Given the stress at a material point depending on time, existence of a strain and a set of inner variables satisfying the constitutive law is proved. We require strong coercivity assumptions on the potentials, but none of the potentials need be quadratic.

As a technical tool we generalize the notion of an Orlicz space to a cone ``normed' by a convex functional which is not necessarily balanced. Duality and reflexivity in such cones are investigated.

     

Stability of the C *-Algebra Associated with Twisted CCR

The universal enveloping C ^*-algebra A of twisted canonical commutation relations is considered. It is shown that, for any (–1,1), the C ^*-algebra A is isomorphic to the C ^*-algebra A ₀ generated by partial isometries t _i ,t _i ^*,i=1,¨,d satisfying the relations t _i ^* t _j = _ij (1– _k<i t _k t _k ^*), t _j t _i =0, ij and it is proved that the Fock representation of A is faithful.     

On an Application of Newton's Method to Nonlinear Operators with w-Conditioned Second Derivative

We present a new approach to study the convergence of Newton's method in Banach spaces, which relax the conditions appearing in the usual studies. The approach is based on the bound required for the second derivative of the operator involved. An application to a nonlinear integral equation is presented.     

Resolution of composite fuzzy relation equations based on Archimedean triangular norms

Lately, the sup-t-norm composition of fuzzy relations has been used instead of the well-known max–min. Thus, there is a need for methods of studying and solving sup-t-norm fuzzy relation equations (t is any t-norm). In this paper, the solution existence problem is first studied and solvability criteria for composite fuzzy relation equations of any t-norm are given. Then, a methodology for solving fuzzy relation equations based on sup-t composition, where t is an Archimedean t-norm, is proposed. This resolution method is simpler and faster than those proposed for covering all the continuous t-norms. The result is important, since, as is shown in the paper, the only continuous t-norm that is not Archimedean is the “minimum”.     

Recurrence relations for the coefficients of the Fourier series expansions with respect to q-classical orthogonal polynomials

We propose an algorithm to construct recurrence relations for the coefficients of the Fourier series expansions with respect to the q-classical orthogonal polynomials p_k(x;q). Examples dealing with inversion problems, connection between any two sequences of q-classical polynomials, linearization of ϑ_m(x) p_n(x;q), where ϑ_m(x) is x^mor (x;q)_m, and the expansion of the Hahn-Exton q-Bessel function in the little q-Jacobi polynomials are discussed in detail. Fixed Points,Continuous Selections,and Existence of Solution of Optimization-Related Problems

We propose a definition of a generalized type of Knaster–Kuratowski–Mazurkiewicz (KKM) mappings, called a weak T-KKM mapping, and a corresponding weak KKM property. A new extension of the Fan–Glicksberg fixed-point theorem is established. Sufficient conditions for the existence of a continuous selection, a fixed point of a composition, and a coincidence point are also provided. Then, we use the obtained results to study the existence of solutions to various optimization-related problems. Discussions and detailed examples are included as well to compare our results with existing ones and to explain their advantages in many situations.     

Uncertainty Relations for Coherence

Quantum mechanical uncertainty relations are fundamental consequences of the incompatible nature of noncommuting observables. In terms of the coherence measure based on the Wigner-Yanase skew information, we establish several uncertainty relations for coherence with respect to von Neumann measurements, mutually unbiased bases(MUBs), and general symmetric informationally complete positive operator valued measurements(SIC-POVMs),respectively. Since coherence is intimately connected with quantum uncertainties, the obtained uncertainty relations are of intrinsically quantum nature, in contrast to the conventional uncertainty relations expressed in terms of variance,which are of hybrid nature(mixing both classical and quantum uncertainties). From a dual viewpoint, we also derive some uncertainty relations for coherence of quantum states with respect to a fixed measurement. In particular, it is shown that if the density operators representing the quantum states do not commute, then there is no measurement(reference basis) such that the coherence of these states can be simultaneously small.
