Characteristics in optimization of CGH for array generator

A method of simulated annealing in optimization of a computer generated holo-gram(CGH)is presented.The characteristics of energy in annealing curve are analyzed.Thecooling schedule such as giving an initial temperature,the temperature function,the numberof interactions and stopping criterion are discussed.As an example,an optimization of phaserelief kinoform,a CGH with multiple phase levels,is implemented.

Full field algebras, operads and tensor categories

We study the operadic and categorical formulations of (conformal) full field algebras. In particular, we show that a grading-restricted R×R-graded full field algebra is equivalent to an algebra over a partial operad constructed from spheres with punctures and local coordinates. This result is generalized to conformal full field algebras over VL⊗VR, where VL and VR are two vertex operator algebras satisfying certain finiteness and reductivity conditions. We also study the geometry interpretation of conformal full field algebras over VL⊗VR equipped with a nondegenerate invariant bilinear form. By assuming slightly stronger conditions on VL and VR, we show that a conformal full field algebra over VL⊗VR equipped with a nondegenerate invariant bilinear form exactly corresponds to a commutative Frobenius algebra with a trivial twist in the category of VL⊗VR-modules. The so-called diagonal constructions [Y.-Z. Huang, L. Kong, Full field algebras, arXiv: math.QA/0511328] of conformal full field algebras are given in tensor-categorical language.     

Homomorphic images of finite subdirectly irreducible unary algebras

We prove that a finite unary algebra with at least two operation symbols is a homomorphic image of a (finite) subdirectly irreducible algebra if and only if the intersection of all its subalgebras which have at least two elements is nonempty. Predicting the Mechanical Properties of Binary Blends of Immiscible Polymers

We couple a morphological study of an immiscible binary AB mixture with a micromechanical simulation to determine how the spatial distribution of the A and B domains and the interfacial region (interphase) affects the mechanical behavior of the blend. The morphological studies are conducted through a three-dimensional Cahn-Hilliard (CH) simulation. Through the CH calculations, we obtain the size and structure of the domains for different blend compositions. The output of the CH model serves as the input to the Lattice Spring Model (LSM), which consists of a three-dimensional network of springs. In particular, the location of the different phases is mapped onto the LSM lattice and the appropriate force constants are assigned to the LSM sites. A stress is applied to the LSM lattice and we calculate the elastic response of the material. We find that the local stress and strain fields are highly dependent on the morphology of the system. By integrating the morphological and mechanical models, we can isolate how modifications in the composition of the mixture affect the macroscopic behavior. Thus, we can establish how choices made in the components affect the ultimate performance of the material.

A density functional theory computational study of the role of ligand on the stability of CuI and CuII species associated with ATRP and SET‐LRP

Atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and single electron‐transfer living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP) both utilize copper complexes of various oxidation states with N‐ligands to perform their respective activation and deactivation steps. Herein, we utilize DFT (B3YLP) methods to determine the preferred ligand‐binding geometries for Cu/N‐ligand complexes related to ATRP and SET‐LRP. We find that those ligands capable of achieving tetrahedral complexes with Cu^I and trigonal bipyramidal with axial halide complexes with [Cu^IIX]⁺ have higher energies of stabilization. We were able to correlate calculated preferential stabilization of [Cu^IIX]⁺ with those ligands that perform best in SET‐LRP. A crude calculation of energy of disproportionation revealed that the same preferential binding of [Cu^IIX]⁺ results in increased propensity for disproportionation. Finally, by examining the relative energies of the basic steps of ATRP and SET‐LRP, we were able to rationalize the transition from the ATRP mechanism to the SET‐LRP mechanism as we transition from typical nonpolar ATRP solvents to polar SET‐LRP solvents. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Maharam algebras and Cohen reals

We show that the product of any two nonatomic Maharam algebras adds a Cohen real. As a corollary of this and a result of Shelah (1994) we obtain that the product of any two nonatomic ccc Souslin forcing notions adds a Cohen real.

     

An infinite dimensional affine nil algebra with finite Gelfand-Kirillov dimension

The famous 1960's construction of Golod and Shafarevich yields infinite dimensional nil, but not nilpotent, algebras. However, these algebras have exponential growth. Here, we construct an infinite dimensional nil, but not locally nilpotent, algebra which has polynomially bounded growth.

     

Hilbert algebras as implicative partial semilattices

The infimum of elements a and b of a Hilbert algebra are said to be the compatible meet of a and b, if the elements a and b are compatible in a certain strict sense. The subject of the paper will be Hilbert algebras equipped with the compatible meet operation, which normally is partial. A partial lower semilattice is shown to be a reduct of such an expanded Hilbert algebra i ?both algebras have the same ?lters.An expanded Hilbert algebra is actually an implicative partial semilattice (i.e., a relative subalgebra of an implicative semilattice),and conversely.The implication in an implicative partial semilattice is characterised in terms of ?lters of the underlying partial semilattice.
