In the set of graphs of order n and chromatic number k the following partial order relation is defined. One says that a graph G is less than a graph H if c_i(G) ≤ c_i(H) holds for every i, k ≤ i ≤ n and at least one inequality is strict, where c_i(G) denotes the number of i‐color partitions of G. In this paper the first ? n/2 ? levels of the diagram of the partially ordered set of connected 3‐chromatic graphs of order n are described. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Lattice gas generalization of the hard hexagon model. II. The local densities as elliptic functions

In a previous paper we considered an extension of the hard hexagon model to a solvable two-dimensional lattice gas with at most two particles per pair of adjacent sites. Here we use various mathematical identities (in particular Gordon's generalization of the Rogers-Ramanujan relations) to express the local densities in terms of elliptic functions. Numerical analysis of a model of cure process for composites

We consider a composite material composed of fibres included in a resin which becomes solid when it is heated up (reaction of reticulation). The mathematical modelling of the cure process is given by a kinetic equation describing the evolution of the reaction of reticulation coupled with the heat equation. In this paper, we are interested in the computation of approximate solutions. We propose a family of discretized problems depending on two parameters (β₁, β₂) ε [0, 1]² which split the linear and non‐ linear terms in implicit and explicit parts. We prove the stability and convergence of the discretization for any (β₁, β₂) ε [½, 1 ] × [0, 1]. We present also some numerical results. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

The shear modulus in the fiber direction of unidirectional fiber composites based on the concept of mesophase

A new and accurate relationship for the shear modulus in the fiber direction of unidirectional fiber composites is derived, based on the Kerner model concepts but not using its approximate relationships. Furthermore, this model is extended by taking into account the mesophase between the fiber and the matrix accomodating smoothly the mechanical properties between neighbouring phases. The introduction of the mesophase results in an improvement of the theoretical predictions, which now approach close to experimental values for the moduli of different fibrous composites.     

Number albedo measurements from stratified layers of iron,concrete and aluminium

A layer of stratified combination composed of selected radiation shielding materials acquires better shielding property. Albedo is used in such measurements as an integral measure ofγ-ray scattering. The stratified slabs of alternating heterogeneous layers have been found to have a virtual homogeneous property with a definite effective atomic number. The angular distribution of back-scattered photons as well as the total number albedo values for iron, aluminium and concrete in stratified combination for 662 keV and 1250 keV photons are reported.     

Partition Lattice q-Analogs Related to q-Stirling Numbers

We construct a family of partially ordered sets (posets) that are q-analogs of the set partition lattice. They are different from the q-analogs proposed by Dowling [5]. One of the important features of these posets is that their Whitney numbers of the first and second kind are just the q-Stirling numbers of the first and second kind, respectively. One member of this family [4] can be constructed using an interpretation of Milne [9] for S[n, k] as sequences of lines in a vector space over the Galois field F _q. Another member is constructed so as to mirror the partial order in the subspace lattice.     

Uniform random number generation

In typical stochastic simulations, randomness is produced by generating a sequence of independent uniform variates (usually real-valued between 0 and 1, or integer-valued in some interval) and transforming them in an appropriate way. In this paper, we examine practical ways of generating (deterministic approximations to) such uniform variates on a computer. We compare them in terms of ease of implementation, efficiency, theoretical support, and statistical robustness. We look in particular at several classes of generators, such as linear congruential, multiple recursive, digital multistep, Tausworthe, lagged-Fibonacci, generalized feedback shift register, matrix, linear congruential over fields of formal series, and combined generators, and show how all of them can be analyzed in terms of their lattice structure. We also mention other classes of generators, like non-linear generators, discuss other kinds of theoretical and empirical statistical tests, and give a bibliographic survey of recent papers on the subject.
