Two Special Simply Connected Spaces of Nonpositive Curvature

We construct two examples of spaces homeomorphic to R ⁿ (n3) each of which has a closed geodesic and admits no isoperimetric inequality. The first is a complete polyhedral metric space of nonpositive curvature, and the second is an incomplete Riemannian space with nonpositive sectional curvatures.     

Fourier-Feynman transform, convolution and first variation

We examine several interesting relationships and expressions involving Fourier-Feynman transform, convolution product and first variation for functionals in the Fresnel class F(B) of an abstract Wiener space B. We also prove a translation theorem and Parseval's identity for the analytic Feynman integral. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.     

New Component of the Moduli Space M(2;0,3) of Stable Vector Bundles on the Double Space P 3 of Index Two

We study the moduli scheme M(2;0,n) of rank-2 stable vector bundles with Chern classes c ₁=0, c ₂=n, on the Fano threefold X – the double space P ³ of index two. New component of this scheme is produced via the Serre construction using certain families of curves on X. In particular, we show that the Abel–Jacobi map :HJ(X) of any irreducible component H of the Hilbert scheme of X containing smooth elliptic quintics on X into the intermediate Jacobian J(X) of X factors by Stein through the quasi-finite (probably birational) map g:M of (an open part of) a component M of the scheme M(2;0,3) to a translate of the theta-divisor of J(X).     

On the Patterson–Sullivan Measure for Geometrically Finite Groups Acting on Complex or Quaternionic Hyperbolic Space

The goal of this paper is to provide a tool, the Global Measure Formula, that will facilitate the study of the limit set of discrete geometrically finite groups of isometries of the rank one symmetric spaces. We consider the shadow of a ball from a fixed reference point onto the boundary, and prove a formula that describes the measure of the shadow in terms of the center of the shadowed ball, generalizing a result from real hyperbolic geometry.     

On the Nature of Buffering

We state a theorem on the instability of self-similar cycles and tori of a certain type in a system which is a quasinormal form of a boundary-value problem for a nonlinear wave equation in the square.     

On the Bavrin Integro-Differential Operators and Their Applications to Solution of Functional Equations

We construct a multiplicative group structure in the class of integro-differential operators specific for a polydisk which was introduced by I. I. Bavrin. We indicate two applications of these operators to solution of functional equations.     

Spaces of Densely Continuous Forms, USCO and Minimal USCO Maps

Our paper studies the topology of uniform convergence on compact sets on the space of densely continuous forms (introduced by Hammer and McCoy (1997)), usco and minimal usco maps. We generalize and complete results from Hammer and McCoy (1997) concerning the space D(X,Y) of densely continuous forms from X to Y. Let X be a Hausdorff topological space, (Y,d) be a metric space and D _k (X,Y) the topology of uniform convergence on compact sets on D(X,Y). We prove the following main results: D _k (X,Y) is metrizable iff D _k (X,Y) is first countable iff X is hemicompact. This result gives also a positive answer to question 4.1 of McCoy (1998). If moreover X is a locally compact hemicompact space and (Y,d) is a locally compact complete metric space, then D _k (X,Y) is completely metrizable, thus improving a result from McCoy (1998). We study also the question, suggested by Hammer and McCoy (1998), when two compatible metrics on Y generate the same topologies of uniform convergence on compact sets on D(X,Y). The completeness of the topology of uniform convergence on compact sets on the space of set-valued maps with closed graphs, usco and minimal usco maps is also discussed.     

Non-compact generalized variational inequalities for quasi-monotone and hemi-continuous operators with applications

Some results are obtained for non-compact cases in topological vector spaces for the existence problem of solutions for some set-valued variational inequalities with quasi-monotone and lower hemi-continuous operators, and with quasi-semi-monotone and upper hemi-continuous operators. Some applications are given in non-reflexive Banach spaces for these existence problems of solutions and for perturbation problems for these set-valued variational inequalities with quasi-monotone and quasi-semi-monotone operators. Probabilistic and Average Linear Widths of Sobolev Space with Gaussian Measure in L \infty-Norm

In this paper we investigate the probabilistic linear $(n,\delta)$-widths and $p$-average linear $n$-widths of the Sobolev space $W^r_2$ equipped with the Gaussian measure $\mu$ in the $L_{\infty}$-norm, and determine the asymptotic equalities \begin{eqnarray*} \lambda_{n,\delta}(W^r_2,\mu,L_{\infty}) &\asymp&\frac{\sqrt{\ln (n/\delta)}}{n^{r+(s-1)/2}},\\[3pt] \lambda^{(a)}_n(W^r_2,\mu,L_{\infty})_p &\asymp&\frac{\sqrt{\ln n}}{n^{r+(s-1)/2}}, \qquad 0 < p < \infty. \end{eqnarray*}     

Hölderian Invariance Principle for Triangular Arrays of Random Variables

In this paper, we extend the Hölderian invariance principle of Lamperti [6] to the case of partial-sum processes based on a triangular array of row-wise independent random variables. As an application, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for the almost sure (resp. in probability) weak Hölder convergence of partial-sum processes based on bootstrapped samples.
