A fourth‐order compact finite difference scheme for the steady stream function–vorticity formulation of the Navier–Stokes/Boussinesq equations

A fourth‐order compact finite difference scheme on the nine‐point 2D stencil is formulated for solving the steady‐state Navier–Stokes/Boussinesq equations for two‐dimensional, incompressible fluid flow and heat transfer using the stream function–vorticity formulation. The main feature of the new fourth‐order compact scheme is that it allows point‐successive overrelaxation (SOR) or point‐successive underrelaxation iteration for all Rayleigh numbers Ra of physical interest and all Prandtl numbers Pr attempted. Numerical solutions are obtained for the model problem of natural convection in a square cavity with benchmark solutions and compared with some of the accurate results available in the literature. Minkowski-type and Alexandrov-Type Theorems for Polyhedral Herissons

Classical H. Minkowski theorems on existence and uniqueness of convex polyhedra with prescribed directions and areas of faces as well as the well-known generalization of H. Minkowski uniqueness theorem due to A.D. Alexandrov are extended to a class of nonconvex polyhedra which are called polyhedral herissons and may be described as polyhedra with injective spherical image.

Monotone Mappings and Flows of Viscous Media

We establish solvability of the boundary-value problems describing stationary and periodic flows of viscoplastic media. In the case of stationary flows we study the question of convergence of the Galerkin method. For the problem of periodic flows we prove a version of the second Bogolyubov theorem.     

A new proof for Rockafellar's characterization of maximal monotone operators

We provide a new and short proof for Rockafellar's characterization of maximal monotone operators in reflexive Banach spaces based on S. Fitzpatrick's function and a technique used by R. S. Burachik and B. F. Svaiter for proving their result on the representation of a maximal monotone operator by convex functions.

A Generalization of a Two-Parameter Quantization for the Group GL 2(k)

We generalize a well-known two-parameter quantization for the group GL ₂(k) (over an arbitrary field k). Specifically, a certain class of Hopf algebras is constructed containing that quantization. The algebras are constructed given an arbitrary coalgebra and an arbitrary pair of its commuting anti-isomorphisms, and are defined by quadratic relations. They are densely linked to the compact quantum groups introduced by Woronowicz. We give examples of Hopf algebras that can be rowed up to the two-parameter quantization for GL ₂(k).
