In this paper, we study the matrix multiplication operators on Banach function spaces and discuss their applications in semigroups for solving the abstract Cauchy problem.

N -Fold ?ech Derived Functors and Generalised Hopf Type Formulas

The notion of n-fold Čech derived functors is introduced and studied. This is illustrated using the n-fold Čech derived functors of the nilization functors Z_k. This gives a new purely algebraic method for the investigation of the Brown–Ellis generalised Hopf formula for the higher integral group homology and for its further generalisation. Closed Trapped Surfaces in Cosmology

The existence of closed trapped surfaces need not imply a cosmological singularity when the spatial hypersurfaces are compact. This is illustrated by a variety of examples, in particular de Sitter spacetime admits many closed trapped surfaces and obeys the null convergence condition but is non-singular in the k = +1 frame.     

Images of locally compact metric spaces

We establish relationships between locally compact-metric spaces and all kinds of spaces with mk-system (compact k-network) by means of compact-covering mappings, quotient mapping and closed mappings. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.

Two-dimensional problem of natural convection in a rectangular domain with local heating and heat-conducting boundaries of finite thickness

Time-dependent natural convective heat transfer in a closed rectangular domain with heat-conducting boundaries of finite thickness is investigated numerically in the case of local heating on the inner side of the vertical wall. Convection-radiation heat transfer takes place on one of the outer boundaries of the solution domain. The inhomogeneous temperature distribution in the gas cavity is clearly manifested when the Grashof number Gr > 10⁶. Circulation flows can be distinguished in various zones of the solution domain on the basis of the numerical investigations carried out. These flows are due to the effect of the heat-release source, the propagation of perturbations induced by elements of the rigid wall, and the dynamics of conductive heat transfer in the solid material. The scales of the effect of the Grashof number on the hydrodynamic and thermal characteristics are indicated.
