The aim of this paper is the expansion of a matrix function in terms of a matrix-continued fraction as defined by Sorokin and Van Iseghem. The function under study is the Weyl function or resolvent function of an operator, given in the standard basis by a bi-infinite band matrix, with p subdiagonals and q superdiagonals, where the p + q – 1 intermediate diagonals are zero. The main goal of this paper is to find, for the moments, an explicit form in terms of the coefficients of the continued fraction, called genetic sums, which lead to a generalization of the notion of a Stieltjes continued fraction. These results are extension of some results already found for the vector case (p = 1) and are a step in the direction towards the solution of the direct and inverse spectral problem. The actual computation of the approximants of the given function as the convergents of the continued fraction is shown to be effective. Some possible extensions are considered. 相似文献

The quadratic matrix equation AX2+ BX + C = 0in n x nmatricesarises in applications and is of intrinsic interest as oneof the simplest nonlinear matrix equations. We give a completecharacterization of solutions in terms of the generalized Schurdecomposition and describe and compare various numerical solutiontechniques. We characterize the possible nonzero spectra of primitive integer matrices (the integer case of Boyle and Handelman's Spectral Conjecture). Characterizations of nonzero spectra of nonnegative matrices over and follow from this result. For the proof of the main theorem we use polynomial matrices to reduce the problem of realizing a candidate spectrum to factoring the polynomial as a product where the 's are polynomials in satisfying some technical conditions and is a formal power series in . To obtain the factorization, we present a hierarchy of estimates on coefficients of power series of the form to ensure nonpositivity in nonzero degree terms.

Using Melrose's scattering calculus, it is shown that the free channel `geometric' scattering matrix, defined via asymptotic expansions of generalized eigenfunctions of , coincides (up to normalization) with the free channel `analytic' scattering matrix defined via wave operators. Along the way, it is shown that the free channel generalized eigenfunctions of Herbst-Skibsted and Jensen-Kitada coincide with the plane waves constructed by Hassell and Vasy and if the potentials are very short range.

We show that for >0, small, there exists a bound state with mass below the two-particle threshold. The existence of the bound state has implications for the decay of correlations, i.e., the 4-point functions decay at a slower rate than twice that of the 2-point function.
