Polynomial Identities for Tangent Algebras of Monoassociative Loops

We introduce degree n Sabinin algebras, which are defined by the polynomial identities up to degree n in a Sabinin algebra. Degree 4 Sabinin algebras can be characterized by the polynomial identities satisfied by the commutator, associator, and two quaternators in the free nonassociative algebra. We consider these operations in a free power associative algebra and show that one of the quaternators is redundant. The resulting algebras provide the natural structure on the tangent space at the identity element of an analytic loop for which all local loops satisfy monoassociativity, a ² a ≡ aa ². These algebras are the next step beyond Lie, Malcev, and Bol algebras. We also present an identity of degree 5 which is satisfied by these three operations but which is not implied by the identities of lower degree.     

Adjoint and Frobenius Pairs of Functors for Corings

We investigate adjoint and Frobenius pairs between categories of comodules over rather general corings. We particularize to the case of the adjoint pair of functors associated to a morphism of corings over different base rings, which leads to a reasonable notion of Frobenius coring extension. When applied to corings stemming from entwining structures, we obtain new results in this setting and in graded ring theory.

Spectral Properties and Identities for the Polar Operator with Nonsmooth Periodic Density

Spectral properties of the polar operator depending on the smoothness of the periodic coefficient are studied. The width of the far gaps in the Bloch spectrum is shown to grow for piecewise continuous coefficients, to be asymptotically constant if the coefficient derivative is piecewise continuous, and to decrease in the more smooth cases. The high energy asymptotics of the Lyapunov function, of the quasimomentum and of effective masses are obtained. The spectral identities for the corresponding classical string equation are derived.     

Contiguous relations, continued fractions and orthogonality

We examine a special linear combination of balanced very-well-poised basic hypergeometric series that is known to satisfy a transformation. We call this and show that it satisfies certain three-term contiguous relations. From two of these contiguous relations for we obtain fifty-six pairwise linearly independent solutions to a three-term recurrence that generalizes the recurrence for Askey-Wilson polynomials. The associated continued fraction is evaluated using Pincherle's theorem. From this continued fraction we are able to derive a discrete system of biorthogonal rational functions. This ties together Wilson's results for rational biorthogonality, Watson's -analogue of Ramanujan's Entry 40 continued fraction, and a conjecture of Askey concerning the latter. Some new -series identities are also obtained. One is an important three-term transformation for 's which generalizes all the known two- and three-term transformations. Others are new and unexpected quadratic identities for these very-well-poised 's.

It is known that congruence lattices of algebras in -permutable varieties satisfy non-trivial identities; however, the identities discovered so far are rather artificial and seem to have little intrinsic interest.

We show here that every -permutable variety satisfies the well-known and well-studied congruence identity . We also get a new condition equivalent to -permutability.

Generalized MacWilliams identities and their applications to perfect binary codes

We present generalized MacWilliams identities for binary codes. These identities naturally lead to the concepts of the local weight distribution of a binary code with respect to a word u and its MacWilliams u-transform. In the case that u is the all-one word, these ones correspond to the weight distribution of a binary code and its MacWilliams transform, respectively. We identify a word v with its support, and consider v as a subset of {1, 2,..., n}. For two words u,w of length n such that their intersection is the empty set, define the u-face centered at w to be the set . A connection between our MacWilliams u-transform and the weight distribution of a binary code in the u-face centered at the zero word is presented. As their applications, we also investigate the properties of a perfect binary code. For a perfect binary code C, the main results are as follows: first, it is proved that our local weight distribution of C is uniquely determined by the number of codewords of C in the orthogonal u-face centered at the zero word. Next, we give a direct proof for the known result, concerning the weight distribution of a coset of C in the u-face centered at the zero word, by A. Y. Vasil’eva without using induction. Finally, it is proved that the weight distribution of C in the orthogonal u-face centered at w is uniquely determined by the codewords of C in the u-face centered at the zero word.
