Relative index pairing and odd index theorem for even dimensional manifolds

We prove an analogue for even dimensional manifolds of the Atiyah-Patodi-Singer twisted index theorem for trivialized flat bundles. We show that the eta invariant appearing in this result coincides with the eta invariant by Dai and Zhang up to an integer. We also obtain the odd dimensional counterpart for manifolds with boundary of the relative index pairing by Lesch, Moscovici and Pflaum.     

A transfer principle for inequalities in vector lattices

A transfer principle from inequalities with inner products to inequalities containing positive semidefinite symmetric bilinear operators with values in a vector lattices is proved. Some applications are also given.

Quantitative insights into electrostatics and structure of polymer brushes from microslit electrokinetic experiments and advanced modelling of interfacial electrohydrodynamics

The development of theories for the electrohydrodynamics at soft surfaces enabled major progress in the quantitative interpretation of streaming current and surface conductivity data collected for polymer brushes. In this paper, we review the basics of the methodology and discuss illustrative examples of practical interest. In particular, we demonstrate how the combination of self-consistent field and soft surface electrokinetic theories using Poisson–Boltzmann (PB) formulations allow the evaluation of the segment density distribution within poly(ethylene oxide) brushes beyond the resolution limits of neutron reflectivity. The application of the methodology for the analysis of the charge, structure, and pairing with chaotropic anions is illustrated for strong cationic poly(2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyltrimethylammonium chloride) brushes. Finally, we report refinements of the PB theory that account for ion hydration, ion pairing, and dielectric decrement in brushes and we present an example of glycosaminoglycan brushes where those effects are significant.     

Optimal control of an elastic string with viscous damping

We study bilinear optimal control of a wave equation with one spatial dimension. The problem describes oscillations of an elastic string with viscous damping, and the damping coefficient is taken as the control. The objective functional involves driving the state solution close to a desired profile and incurring a cost on the control. The optimal control is characrerized in terms of an optimality system.

利用双线性形式和重合度理论,研究了一类含有强迫项的Rayleigh曲型方程的反周期解,给出了反周期解存在和唯一的新的判据,所得结果改善了已有的工作.     

Multiple lump solutions of the (2+1)-dimensional Konopelchenko–Dubrovsky equation

In this paper, multiple lump solutions of the (2+1)-dimensional Konopelchenko–Dubrovsky equation are obtained by means of the Hirota bilinear method. With the aid of positive quartic-quadratic-functions, we can get the 1-lump solutions, 3-lump solutions, and 6-lump solutions. Via the density plots and three-dimensional plots, the dynamic properties of multiple lump solutions are discussed by choosing the appropriate parameters. It is expected that our results are valuable for revealing the high-dimensional dynamic phenomenon of the nonlinear evolution equations.     

Zero product determined Jordan algebras,I

We show that the Jordan algebra 𝒮 of symmetric matrices with respect to either transpose or symplectic involution is zero product determined. This means that if a bilinear map {.,?.} from 𝒮?×?𝒮 into a vector space X satisfies {x, y}?=?0 whenever x?○?y?=?0, then there exists a linear map T : 𝒮?→?X such that {x,?y}?=?T(x?○?y) for all x, y?∈?𝒮 (here, x?○?y?=?xy?+?yx).     

On the convergence of numerical methods for solving a Volterra bilinear equations of the first kind

A justification is given for the convergence of quadratures (namely, the right rectangle and midpoint rules) for the numerical solution of a Volterra bilinear equation of the first kind. Numerical results for some benchmark problems are presented.
