The well known steady free convection forward boundary layer (FBL) flows ascending over a heated upwards projecting semi-infinite flat plate embedded in a fluid saturated porous medium are compared in this paper to their less well known backward (BBL) counterparts descending over a cooled (also upwards projecting!) semi-infinite flat plate. The circumstance that the definite edge of the plate (x = 0) in the former case is a leading edge and in the latter one a trailing edge, leads to substantially different mathematical and physical features of the FBL and BBL flows, respectively. The paper considers under this aspect the case of similar flows corresponding to surface temperature distributions which are power-law functions of the distance x from the definite edge. For permeable plates the effect of an adequate lateral suction and injection of the fluid is also taken into account. The detailed investigation, however, is restricted to the particular values m = +1 and m = –1/3 of the power-law exponent m, where both FBL and BBL solutions are available in exact analytic form. For each of these values, both exponentially and algebraically decaying BBL solutions were found. A class of exact analytic solutions of the system of nonlinear long-wave equations is found. This class corresponds to the axisymmetric vibrations of an ideal incompressible homogeneous fluid in a rotating vessel in the shape of a paraboloid of revolution. The radial velocity of these motions is a linear function, and the azimuthal velocity and free surface displacements are polynomials in the radial coordinate with time-dependent coefficients. The nonlinear vibration frequency is equal to the frequency of the lowest mode of linear axisymmetric standing waves in the parabolic vessel. 相似文献

We present new examples of exactly averaged multi-dimensional equation of transport of a conservative solute in a time-dependent random flow velocity field. The functional approach and a technique for decoupling the correlations are used. In general, the averaged equation is non-local. We study the special cases where the averaged equation can be localized and reduced to a differential equation of finite-order, where the problem of evolution of the initial plume (Cauchy problem) can be solved exactly. We present in detail the results of the analyses of two cases of exactly averaged problems for Gaussian and telegraph random velocity with an identical exponential correlation function, which are informative and convenient models for continuous and discontinuous random functions. The problems in which the field has sources of solute and boundaries are also examined. We study the behavior of different initial plumes for all times (evolutions and convergence) and show the manner in which they approach the same asymptotic limit for two stochastic distributions of flow-velocity. A comparison between exact solutions and solutions derived by the method of perturbation is also discussed. 相似文献

An isogeometric discontinuous Galerkin method for Euler equations is proposed. It integrates the idea of isogeometric analysis with the discontinuous Galerkin framework by constructing each element through the knots insertion and degree elevation techniques in non‐uniform rational B‐splines. This leads to the solution inherently shares the same function space as the non‐uniform rational B‐splines representation, and results in that the curved boundaries as well as the interfaces between neighboring elements are naturally and exactly resolved. Additionally, the computational cost is reduced in contrast to that of structured grid generation. An application of the ‐expansion method to search for exact solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations is analyzed. This method is used for variants of the Korteweg–de Vries–Burger and the K(n,n)–Burger equations. The generalized ‐expansion method was used to construct periodic wave and solitary wave solutions of nonlinear evolution equations. This method is developed for searching exact traveling wave solutions of nonlinear partial differential equations. It is shown that the generalized ‐expansion method, with the help of symbolic computation, provides a straightforward and powerful mathematical tool for solving nonlinear problems.
