In the paper, we collect some inequalities and establish a sharp double inequality for bounding the n-th harmonic number.     

A control parametrization algorithm for optimal control problems involving linear systems and linear 1

Computational schemes based on control parametrization techniques are known to be very efficient for solving optimal control problems. However, the convergence result is only available for the case in which the dynamic system is linear and without the terminal equality and inequality constraints. This paper is to improve this convergence result by allowing the presence of the linear terminal inequality. For illustration, an example arising in the study of optimally one-sided heating of a metal slab in a furnace is considered.     

The first-order approach to the principal–agent problems under inequality aversion

This paper considers the principal–agent problems under inequality aversion. We identify sufficient conditions for the first-order approach to be valid. Our results suggest that the first-order approach is restricted in the presence of inequality aversion.     

From inequalities involving exponential functions and sums to logarithmically complete monotonicity of ratios of gamma functions

In this paper, the authors review origins, motivations, and generalizations of a series of inequalities involving finitely many exponential functions and sums. They establish three new inequalities involving finitely many exponential functions and sums by finding convexity of a function related to the generating function of the Bernoulli numbers. They also survey the history, backgrounds, generalizations, logarithmically complete monotonicity, and applications of a series of ratios of finitely many gamma functions, present complete monotonicity of a linear combination of finitely many trigamma functions, construct a new ratio of finitely many gamma functions, derive monotonicity, logarithmic convexity, concavity, complete monotonicity, and the Bernstein function property of the newly constructed ratio of finitely many gamma functions. Finally, they suggest two linear combinations of finitely many trigamma functions and two ratios of finitely many gamma functions to be investigated.     

Logarithmically completely monotonic functions relating to the gamma function

In this paper, the logarithmically complete monotonicity of the function exΓ(x+β)/xx+β−α in (0,∞) for α∈R and β?0 is considered and the corresponding result by G.D. Anderson, R.W. Barnard, K.C. Richards, M.K. Vamanamurthy and M. Vuorinen is generalized. As applications of these results, some inequalities between identric mean and ratio of two gamma functions by J.D. Ke?ki? and P.M. Vasi? are extended.     

Some inequalities for Laplace transforms

Recently we established Matysiak and Szablowski's conjecture [V. Matysiak, P.J. Szablowski, Some inequalities for characteristic functions, Theory Probab. Appl. 45 (2001) 711-713] about a lower bound of real-valued characteristic functions. In this paper, we investigate the counterparts for Laplace transforms of non-negative random variables. Surprisingly, the resulting inequalities hold true on the right half-line. Besides, we show some more inequalities by applying the convex/concave properties of the remainder in Taylor's expansion for the exponential function.

Inequalities involving upper bounds for certain matrix operators

In this paper, we considered the problem of finding the upper bound Hausdorff matrix operator from sequence spaces l_p(v) (ord(v, p)) intol _p (w) (ord(w, p)). Also we considered the upper bound problem for matrix operators fromd(v, 1) intod(w, 1), and matrix operators frome(w, ∞) intoe(v, ∞), and deduce upper bound for Cesaro, Copson and Hilbert matrix operators, which are recently considered in [5] and [6] and similar to that in [10].     

Solvability theory for a class of hemivariational inequalities involving copositive plus matrices applications in robotics

The study of the equilibrium of an object-robotic hand system including nonmonotone adhesive effects and nonclassical friction effects leads to new inequality methods in robotics. The aim of this paper is to describe these inequality methods and provide a corresponding suitable mathematical theory.
