对于独立不同分布的两个Gamma样本，当它们相同的形状参数大于或等于1时，最近Korwar(2002)证明了，当它们的尺度参数满足优化序时，样本的卷积就满足似然比序．本文我们证明了，当Gamma分布的形状参数小于1时，样本的对应秩序统计量之间存在一致的一般随机序；然而当形状参数大于1时，样本对应的极大值和极小值统计量有着相反的一般随机序。

Conical algorithm for the global minimization of linearly constrained decomposable concave minimization problems

In this paper, we are concerned with the linearly constrained global minimization of the sum of a concave function defined on ap-dimensional space and a linear function defined on aq-dimensional space, whereq may be much larger thanp. It is shown that a conical algorithm can be applied in a space of dimensionp + 1 that involves only linear programming subproblems in a space of dimensionp +q + 1. Some computational results are given.This research was accomplished while the second author was a Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, University of Trier, Trier, Germany.

On the pointwise densities of the Cantor measure

Let K(a) be the symmetrical Cantor set generated by ?₀(x)=ax and ?₁(x)=ax+(1−a), where 0<a<1/2. Let s be the Hausdorff dimension of K(a) and μ the Cantor measure. In this paper, under the hypothesis that a is slightly greater than 1/3, we obtain the explicit formulas of the upper and lower s-densities Θ?s(μ,x), for every point x∈K(a). Moreover, we describe the range of a key quantity τ(x) in these formulas.     

Mean value property and a Berezin-type transform on the half-space

Let B be the open unit ball in Rn. Liu (2007) [6] has shown that if then the iterates of a Berezin-type transform of f converge to the Poisson extension of the boundary values of f, as k→∞. In this paper, we extend this to the half-space setting. First, we obtain the mean value property for harmonic functions on the half-space H. Based on this property, we define a Berezin-type transform BH and investigate the limit of the iterates of BH.     

Bounding the spectrum of large Hermitian matrices

Estimating upper bounds of the spectrum of large Hermitian matrices has long been a problem with both theoretical and practical significance. Algorithms that can compute tight upper bounds with minimum computational cost will have applications in a variety of areas. We present a practical algorithm that exploits k-step Lanczos iteration with a safeguard step. The k is generally very small, say 5-8, regardless of the large dimension of the matrices. This makes the Lanczos iteration economical. The safeguard step can be realized with marginal cost by utilizing the theoretical bounds developed in this paper. The bounds establish the theoretical validity of a previous bound estimator that has been successfully used in various applications. Moreover, we improve the bound estimator which can now provide tighter upper bounds with negligible additional cost.     

Extension of Redheffer type inequalities to modified Bessel functions

In this note, new sharpened Redheffer type inequalities involving modified Bessel functions are established.
