The sedimentation of a homogeneous distribution of spherical composite particles and the fluid flow through a bed of these particles are investigated theoretically. Each composite particle is composed of a spherical solid core and a surrounding porous shell. In the fluid-permeable porous shell, idealized hydrodynamic frictional segments are assumed to distribute uniformly. The effect of interactions among the particles is taken into explicit account by employing a fundamental cell-model representation which is known to provide good predictions for the motion of a swarm of nonporous spheres within a fluid. In the limit of a small Reynolds number, the Stokes and Brinkman equations are solved for the flow field in a unit cell, and the drag force exerted by the fluid on the particle is obtained in a closed form. For a distribution of composite spheres, the normalized mobility of the particles decreases or the particle interactions increase monotonically with a decrease in the permeability of their porous shells. The effect of particle interactions on the creeping motion of composite spheres relative to a fluid can be quite significant in some situations. In the limiting cases, the analytical solutions describing the drag force or mobility for a suspension of composite spheres reduce to those for suspensions of solid spheres and of porous spheres. The hydrodynamic behavior for composite spheres may be approximated by that for permeable spheres when the porous layer is sufficiently thick, depending on the permeability.  相似文献

The Nordic forest industry requires just-in-time wood deliveries. Operations must continue regardless of season, weather and terrain. Soil compaction and deep ruts must be avoided while providing high performance and a reasonable working environment for operators.The Xt28 pendulum arm forwarder is a full-size concept forwarder with six hydrostatic propelled wheels on pendulum arms built on a three-piece frame connected with two articulation joints. The Xt28 concept machine was tested according to Skogforsk standard machine tests. Rut depth test focused on soil interaction where rut depth was measured related to number of passes. Machine dynamics were measured using standardized test track with focus on operator comfort.The project proved the potential of pendulum arm technology in off-road transportation. Automatic pendulum arm levelling, equalized ground pressure between wheels and improved operator comfort through reducing adverse vibrations and roll angles, simultaneously reducing dynamic forces transferred to the forest floor. Pendulum arm technology improves travel speed in adverse terrain, providing unparalleled side slope capability and enhanced productivity.  相似文献

In this paper we explore the usefulness of induced-order statistics in the characterization of integrated series and of cointegration relationships. We propose a non-parametric test statistic for testing the null hypothesis of two independent random walks against wide cointegrating alternatives including monotonic nonlinearities and certain types of level shifts in the cointegration relationship. We call our testing device the induced-order Kolmogorov–Smirnov cointegration test (KS), since it is constructed from the induced-order statistics of the series, and we derive its limiting distribution. This non-parametric statistic endows the test with a number of desirable properties: invariance to monotonic transformations of the series, and robustness for the presence of important parameter shifts. By Monte Carlo simulations we analyze the small sample properties of this test. Our simulation results show the robustness of the induced order cointegration test against departures from linear and constant parameter models. This paper is an extension of the work of Aparicio and Granger (1995) and Aparicio and Escribano (1998).  相似文献

A module M is called morphic if M/M α ? ker(α) for all endomorphisms α in end(M), and a ring R is called a left morphic ring if RR is a morphic module. We consider the open question when the matrix ring Mn(R) is left morphic by relating it to when Rn is morphic as a left R-module. More generally, we investigate when M being morphic implies that end(M) is left morphic, and conversely. Finally, we relate the morphic condition to internal cancellation in the module.  相似文献
