Nonlinear boundary value problems (BVPs) by means of the classical Lie symmetry method are studied. A new definition of Lie invariance for BVPs is proposed by the generalization of existing those on much wider class of BVPs. A class of two-dimensional nonlinear boundary value problems, modeling the process of melting and evaporation of metals, is studied in details. Using the definition proposed, all possible Lie symmetries and the relevant reductions (with physical meaning) to BVPs for ordinary differential equations are constructed. An example how to construct exact solution of the problem with correctly-specified coefficients is presented and compared with the results of numerical simulations published earlier. 相似文献

Persistence and propagation of species are fundamental questions in spatial ecology. This paper focuses on the impact of Allee effect on the persistence and propagation of a population with birth pulse. We investigate the threshold dynamics of an impulsive reaction–diffusion model and provide the existence of bistable traveling waves connecting two stable equilibria. To prove the existence of bistable waves, we extend the method of monotone semiflows to impulsive reaction–diffusion systems. We use the methods of upper and lower solutions and the convergence theorem for monotone semiflows to prove the global stability of traveling waves and their uniqueness up to translation. Then we enhance the stability of bistable traveling waves to global exponential stability. Numerical simulations illustrate our theoretical results. 相似文献

This paper is concerned with the existence, monotonicity, asymptotic behavior and uniqueness of traveling wave solutions for a three-species competitive–cooperative system with nonlocal dispersal and bistable dynamics. By considering a related truncated problem, we first establish the existence and strict monotonicity of traveling waves by means of a limiting argument and a comparative lemma. Then the asymptotic behavior of traveling waves is investigated by using Ikehara’s lemma and bilateral Laplace transform. In a double round-robin tournament involving n teams, every team plays 2(n − 1) games, with one home game and one away game against each of the other n − 1 teams. Given a symmetric n by n matrix representing the distances between each pair of home cities, the traveling tournament problem (TTP) seeks to construct an optimal schedule that minimizes the sum total of distances traveled by the n teams as they move from city to city, subject to several natural constraints to ensure balance and fairness. In the TTP, the number of rounds is set at r = 2. In this paper, we generalize the TTP to multiple rounds (r = 2k, for any k ? 1) and present an algorithm that converts the problem to finding the shortest path in a directed graph, enabling us to apply Dijkstra’s Algorithm to generate the optimal multi-round schedule. We apply our shortest-path algorithm to optimize the league schedules for Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) in Japan, where two leagues of n = 6 teams play 40 sets of three intra-league games over r = 8 rounds. Our optimal schedules for the Pacific and Central Leagues achieve a 25% reduction in total traveling distance compared to the 2010 NPB schedule, implying the potential for considerable savings in terms of time, money, and greenhouse gas emissions. 相似文献

The traveling salesman problem is a classic NP-hard problem used to model many production and scheduling problems. The problem becomes even more difficult when additional salesmen are added to create a multiple traveling salesman problem (MTSP). We consider a variation of this problem where one salesman visits a given set of cities in a series of short trips. This variation is faced by numerous franchise companies that use quality control inspectors to ensure properties are maintaining acceptable facility and service levels. We model an actual franchised hotel chain using traveling quality inspectors to demonstrate the technique. The model is solved using a commercially available genetic algorithm (GA) tool as well as a custom GA program. The custom GA is proven to be an effective method of solving the proposed model. 相似文献

We consider a stochastic model of N evolving particles studied by Brunet and Derrida. This model can be seen as a directed polymer in random medium with N sites in the transverse direction. Cook and Derrida use heuristic arguments to obtain a formula for the ground state energy of the polymer. We formalize their argument and show that there is an additional term in the formula in the critical case. We also consider a generalization of the model, and show that in the noncritical case the behavior is basically the same, whereas in the critical case a new correction appears. 相似文献
