Trefftz,collocation, and other boundary methods—A comparison

In this article we survey the Trefftz method (TM), the collocation method (CM), and the collocation Trefftz method (CTM). We also review the coupling techniques for the interzonal conditions, which include the indirect Trefftz method, the original Trefftz method, the penalty plus hybrid Trefftz method, and the direct Trefftz method. Other boundary methods are also briefly described. Key issues in these algorithms, including the error analysis, are addressed. New numerical results are reported. Comparisons among TMs and other numerical methods are made. It is concluded that the CTM is the simplest algorithm and provides the most accurate solution with the best numerical stability. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A nodal coupling of finite and boundary elements

This article presents and analyzes a simple method for the exterior Laplace equation through the coupling of finite and boundary element methods. The main novelty is the use of a smooth parametric artificial boundary where boundary elements fit without effort together with a straight approximate triangulation in the bounded area, with the coupling done only in nodes. A numerically integrated version of the algorithm is also analyzed. Finally, an isoparametric variant with higher order is proposed. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Some remarks on the Jensen-Hadamard inequalities and applications

We provide some inequalities and integral inequalities connected to the Jensen-Hadamard inequalities for convex functions. In particular, we give some refinements to these inequalities. Some natural applications and further extensions are given.

Differentiators and the geometry of polynomials

In 1959, Davis introduced the concept of a differentiator of an operator on a finite-dimensional Hilbert space. We prove that every such operator possesses a differentiator. We also use the theory of differentiators to solve several problems in the geometry of polynomials. For instance, we answer in the affirmative a twenty year old unsolved conjecture of Schoenberg, a related conjecture of Katsoprinakis and a fifty year old unsolved conjecture of De Bruijn and Springer.     

On the successive supersymmetric rank‐1 decomposition of higher‐order supersymmetric tensors

In this paper, a successive supersymmetric rank‐1 decomposition of a real higher‐order supersymmetric tensor is considered. To obtain such a decomposition, we design a greedy method based on iteratively computing the best supersymmetric rank‐1 approximation of the residual tensors. We further show that a supersymmetric canonical decomposition could be obtained when the method is applied to an orthogonally diagonalizable supersymmetric tensor, and in particular, when the order is 2, this method generates the eigenvalue decomposition for symmetric matrices. Monotonic solutions of a quadratic integral equation of fractional order

In the paper we indicate an error made in the proof of the main result of the paper [M.A. Darwish, On quadratic integral equation of fractional orders, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 311 (2005) 112-119]. Moreover, we provide correct proof of a slightly modified version of the mentioned result. The main tool used in our proof is the technique associated with the Hausdorff measure of noncompactness.     

An extension of gap functions for a system of vector equilibrium problems with applications to optimization problems

In this paper, the notion of gap functions is extended from scalar case to vector one. Then, gap functions and generalized functions for several kinds of vector equilibrium problems are shown. As an application, the dual problem of a class of optimization problems with a system of vector equilibrium constraints (in short, OP) is established, the concavity of the dual function, the weak duality of (OP) and the saddle point sufficient condition are derived by using generalized gap functions. On the approximation of convex functions by Bernstein-type operators

As a consequence of Jensen's inequality, centered operators of probabilistic type (also called Bernstein-type operators) approximate convex functions from above. Starting from this fact, we consider several pairs of classical operators and determine, in each case, which one is better to approximate convex functions. In almost all the discussed examples, the conclusion follows from a simple argument concerning composition of operators. However, when comparing Szász-Mirakyan operators with Bernstein operators over the positive semi-axis, the result is derived from the convex ordering of the involved probability distributions. Analogous results for non-centered operators are also considered.

设W(1n)W2(n)…W(nn)是严平稳随即序列{Xn,n 1}的前几个变量的顺序统计量,Nn Mn是两正整值r.v,n 1.在较弱一些的混合条件下,本文给出了W(NMn)n标准化后的极限分布,从而使一些提法更趋一般化,主要结果推进了Rao(1984)和张国胜(1993)的工作.由于混合条件的减弱,使得对m-相关和正态平稳过程的具体应用讨论更加充分.     

具非线性中立项的二阶时滞微分方程的振动性质

By using the averaging technique, we obtain new oscillation criteria for second order delay differential equation with nonlinear neutral term. These results generalize and improve some known results about neutral delay differential equation of second order.
