Indium(III) iodide-mediated Strecker reaction in water: an efficient and environmentally friendly approach for the synthesis of α-aminonitrile via a three-component condensation

A mild, efficient and environmentally friendly method has been developed for the synthesis of α-aminonitriles via a three-component condensation of aldehyde, amine and TMSCN in the presence of a catalytic amount of indium(III) iodide in water. The reactions proceeded smoothly at room temperature in water to generate the corresponding products in moderate to excellent yields.

A facile method for the preparation of α-methylene-γ-butyrolactones from tulip tissues by enzyme-mediated conversion

We developed a facile method of enzyme-mediated conversion of 6-tuliposide to α-methylene-γ-butyrolactone (tulipalin). We used a tuliposide-converting enzyme for the conversion of 6-tuliposides extracted from tulip tissues into the corresponding tulipalins in high yields within 2 h at pH 7.0. The resulting tulipalins were selectively extracted by using several organic solvents.

A general and convenient synthetic route to various chiral 2-substituted- and 2,4-disubstituted-N-tosylazetidines (ee >99%) is described in good overall yields starting from chiral α-amino acids using very simple chemistry.     

A facile method for the synthesis of substituted 2-ylidene-1,3-oxathioles from acetophenones

Compounds incorporating 1,3-oxathiole moieties in their frameworks are biologically active. Active methylene ketones can be easily converted to the corresponding dithiocarboxylates by treatment with trithiocarbonate in the presence of sodium hydride. The reactions of aroyl dithiocarboxylates with α-haloketones such as phenacyl bromide or bromoacetone afford substituted 2-ylidene-1,3-oxathioles in good yields.
