Spin interaction with an ideal Fermi gas

We consider the equilibrium dynamics of a system consisting of a spin interacting with an ideal Fermi gas on the lattice , 3. We present two examples: when this system is unitarily equivalent to an ideal Fermi gas or to a spin in an ideal Fermi gas without interaction between them.     

Thermodynamics of molecular interactions in ethyl iodide+toluene mixtures

The excess Gibb's free energy of mixing, G^E, for ethyl iodide+toluene at 25°C have been obtained from the measured vapor pressuure data. The H^E and G^E values for ethyl iodide+toluene are positive throughout the ethyl iodide concentration range and G^E>H^E. The results have been analyzed in terms of Flory and ideal associated model theory of nonelectrolyte solutions. It has been observed that the ideal associated model approach which assumes the presence of AN and A₂B molecular species describes well (within±10 J-mol^–1 in the worst case) the general dependence of H^E on X_A (mole fraction of ethyl iodide) over the whole composition range for ethyl iodide+toluene mixtures. The equilibrium constants for A+A AB and 2A+BA₂B reactions along with the enthalpies of formation of AB and A₂B molecular species have been calculated.     

The preparation of thick-film glass capillary columns

A detailed method for the routine preparation of glass capillary columns is presented. The method consists of coating a glass tube with quartz powder prior to pulling the tube into a capillary. The inner surface of the capillary consists of an even distribution of quartz particles fused to the walls. This surface has been found readily deactivated by standard procedures and ideal for the preparation of thick-film glass capillary columns. The method has been thoroughly tested in two independent laboratories to ensure that the procedures described are reproducible.

The Boolean Prime Ideal Theorem Plus Countable Choice Do Not Imply Dependent Choice

Two Fraenkel-Mostowski models are constructed in which the Boolean Prime Ideal Theorem is true. In both models, AC for countable sets is true, but AC for sets of cardinality 2 and the 2m = m principle are both false. The Principle of Dependent Choices is true in the first model, but false in the second. Mathematics Subject Classification: 03E25, 03E35, 04A25.     

Practical capillary gas chromatography—a systematic approach

Capillary gc is now rapidly expanding. Naturally, initiation is most often attempted on the basis of the experience acquired with packed columns. However, such an extrapolation is successful only if a number of essential peculiarities of capillary gc are considered. Based on practical examples this paper discusses six essential details: 1) design and maintenance of the gas flow paths, 2) the greatly increased importance of sampling technique, which should not be confined just to stream splitting, 3) the problems in quantitative analysis arising from small sample size, 4) specific sources of trouble related to small amounts of liquid phase, 5) specific arguments for the choice of the carrier gas, clearly pointing to hydrogen as the ideal carrier and, 6) the different way to approach column production. Figures for all selected examples are given.     

A study for quality evaluation of Taxilli Herba from different hosts based on fingerprint-activity relationship modeling and multivariate statistical analysis

In this study, a fingerprint-activity relationship modeling between chemical fingerprints and antirheumatic activity was established, and multivariate statistical analysis was used to evaluate the quality of Taxilli Herba (TH) from different hosts. Characteristic fingerprints of 20 batches of TH samples were generated by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with triple quadrupole-time of flight tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-Triple TOF-MS/MS), and the similarity analysis was calculated based on thirteen common characteristic peaks by hierarchical clustering analysis (HCA). Subsequently, nine efficacy markers were discovered by combining fingerprints and antirheumatic activity through grey correlation analysis (GCA) and bivariate correlation analysis (BCA). Meanwhile, the content of 5 constituents in 9 markers was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with triple quadrupole-linear ion trap tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-QTRAP-MS/MS). The comprehensive quality of TH was assessed using multivariate statistical analysis, including principal components analysis (PCA) and technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS). The results showed that a high dose of TH extract could markedly ameliorate arthritis damage compared to other doses, with flavonoids playing an important role in the antirheumatic activity. The comprehensive quality of samples from Morus alba L. (SS) was superior to those from Liquidambar formosana Hance (FXS). The present study will demonstrate the markers associated with efficacy, and provide an applicable strategy for more comprehensive quality control and evaluation of TH.     

Relative K-homology and K-homology of an ideal

We provide a straightforward proof of one of the main results of the Baum-Douglas K-homology theory: If A is a separable nuclear C ^*-algebra and I an ideal of A, then the natural restriction map K ⁰(A, I) K ⁰(I) is an isomorphism of Abelian groups.     

Etude Experimentale et Modelisation des Equilibres Solide—Liquide du Systeme Binaire H2O—UO2(NO3)2

The binary system H₂O—UO₂(NO₃)₂ was studied by solubility measurements and constant heat flow thermal analysis. Temperature and composition of the eutectic transformation between ice and uranyl nitrate hexahydrate were accurately defined. A new hydrate with 24 molecules of water decomposes at –21°C according to the peritectoid reaction<UO₂(NO₃)₂·24H₂O> <UO₂(NO₃)₂·6H₂O> + 18<H₂O>The quasi-ideal model was applied to the solid—liquid equilibria, using the following reaction hypothesis:((UO ₂ ²⁺ )) + 2((NO ₃ ^– ))+ h((H₂O)) ((UO₂OH⁺aq)) + ((H₃O⁺aq + 2((NO ₃ ^– aq))A complete calculation of the binary system was carried out with a global ionic hydration number h equal to 9 in the aqueous solutions. It allowed to the melting enthalpies of uranyl nitrate hydrates.

An investigation of glasses for capillary chromatography

An investigation was conducted of various glasses, other than soda lime or borosilicate, for use in glass capillary gas chromatography. The work has uncovered some unique chromatographic qualities in the use of potash soda lead and fused silica glasses as materials for making glass capillary columns. The fused silica proved to be an ideal material for capillary column construction, being inherently more inert than glass containing metal oxides. It has been shown that through the use of thin wall capillary tubing of high flexibility many of the mechanical problems associated with glass capillary columns, such as fragility and column straightening, can be avoided.
