Belting, a vocal technique typically cultivated in musical theatre singing, differs timbrally from operatic singing in many interesting respects. The underlying phonatory differences have not been previously investigated in detail. Yet, belting is frequently associated with disturbances of voice function. Articulatory and phonatory characteristics are investigated in a female subject who is a professional singer (co-author JL) trained in both the operatic and belting styles and in an intermediate vocal technique (“mixed”). This article presents data obtained from this subject by video-fiberoptic observation of the pharynx, inverse filtering of airflow, and measurement of subglottal pressure. The results reveal that belting was characterized by very high subglottal pressures and sound levels, and apparently also by a comparatively high degree of glottal adduction. Comparisons with other investigations of related aspects of belting and operatic singing support the assumption that the data obtained from our subject are representative for these vocal techniques. 相似文献

The coagulation frequency is the key ingredient in the population balance (Smoluchowski) equation of coagulation kinetics. An inverse problem is formulated to extract the coagulation frequency from transient size distributions when these distributions are self-similar. Two numerical examples illustrate the procedure. The first demonstrates the inverse problem for the recovery of singular coagulation frequencies, while the second shows the procedure when self-similarity is approximate. Transient droplet coagulation experiments in a turbulent flow field have been performed. The resulting size distributions are observed to be self-similar. The inverse problem is used to determine the drop coagulation frequency. This frequency shows significant deviation from the coagulation frequencies derived from simple models of drop-drop interactions in a turbulent flow field. 相似文献

We present a novel solution algorithm for 3D parameter identification based on low frequency electromagnetic data. With focus on large-scale applications such as monitoring of subsea oil production, CO2 sequestration, and geothermal systems, the proposed solution algorithm is designed to meet challenges related to low parameter sensitivity, nonuniqueness of the inverse solutions, nonlinearity in the mapping from the data to the parameter space, and costly numerical simulations. Motivated by earlier investigations on the relation between sensitivity, nonlinearity and scale, the proposed solution approach is based on a reduced, composite parameter representation. Though a reduced representation restricts the solution space, flexibility with respect to which parameter functions that can be represented is obtained by facilitating the estimation of the structure and smoothness of the representation itself. Moreover, the resolution of the parameter function is detached from the computational grid and determined as part of the estimation. The performance of the proposed solution algorithm is illustrated through numerical examples for identification of underground electric conductivity changes from time-lapse electromagnetic observations. 相似文献

The statin drug Simvastatin is a HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor that has been widely used to lower blood lipid. However, the drug is clinically observed to reposition a significant suppressing potency on glioblastoma (GBM) by unexpectedly targeting diverse kinase pathways involved in GBM tumorigensis. Here, an inverse screening strategy is described to discover potential kinase targets of Simvastatin. Various human protein kinases implicated in GBM are enriched to define a druggable kinome; the binding behavior of Simvastatin to the kinome is profiled systematically via an integrative computational approach, from which most kinases have only low or moderate binding potency to Simvastatin, while only few are identified as promising kinase hits. It is revealed that Simvastatin can potentially interact with certain known targets or key regulators of GBM such as ErbB, c-Src and FGFR signaling pathways, but exhibit low affinity to the well-established GBM target of PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway. Further assays determine that Simvastatin can inhibit kinase hits EGFR, MET, SRC and HER2 at nanomolar level, which are comparable with those of cognate kinase inhibitors. Structural analyses reveal that the sophisticated T790 M gatekeeper mutation can considerably reduce Simvastatin sensitivity to EGFR by inducing the ligand change between different binding modes. 相似文献

Summary Inverse gas chromatography is shown to be suitable for the study of the oxidation of vegetable oils. With air as carrier gas
characteristic plots of retention index versus time are obtained for hydroxylic test solutes that are consistent with the
oxidation behaviour of vegetable oils. Shifts of retention are found to be accompanied by changes of column efficiency due
to the oxidative crosslinking of polyunsaturated vegetable oils. The technique also leads to useful information concerning
the oxidation of antioxidant inhibited systems.
