Uncertainty about the nature and significance of nonlinearities and the manner in which dynamics affect future realizations makes model specification the most difficult aspect of modeling dynamic systems. By interpreting several popular fishery models as subcases of a nesting dynamic Taylor series approximation, we isolate the specification differences between these models in a way that accounts for commonalities. On the argument that the differences due to alternative nonlinear forms are likely to be small compared to more mundane considerations such as delay difference and general dynamic lag specification, we propose an alternative model that uses the terms from the first order approximation common to all models combined with a data-based determination of the appropriate lags using the methods of state space time series analysis. Finally, the success of the alternative models is judged in an application to Pacific halibut data.  相似文献

We have studied the vibrational frequencies and atom displacements of one-dimensional systems formed by combinations of Thue-Morse and Rudin-Shapiro quasi-regular stackings with periodic ones. The materials are described by nearest-neighbor force constants and the corresponding atom masses. These systems exhibit differences in the frequency spectrum as compared to the original simple quasi-regular generations and periodic structures. The most important feature is the presence of separate confinement of the atom displacements in one of the parts forming the total composite structure for different frequency ranges, thus acting as a kind of phononic cavity.  相似文献

Manganites of the LA1−x Ca x MnO3 family show a variety of new and poorly understood electronic, magnetic and structural effects. Here we outline a new approach recently proposed by us, where we argue that due to strong Jahn-Teller (JT) coupling with phonons the twofold degeneratee g states at the Mn sites dynamically reorganize themselves into localised, JT polaronsl with exponentially small inter-site hopping, and band-like, nonpolaronic statesb, leading to anew 2-band model for manganites which includes strong Coulomb and Hund’s couplings. We also discuss some results from a dynamical mean-field theory treatment of the model which explains quantitatively a wide variety of experimental results, including insulator-metal transitions and CMR, in terms of the influence of physical conditions on the relative energies and occupation of thel andb states. We argue that this microscopic coexistence of the two types of electronic states, and their relative occupation and spatial correlation is the key to manganite physics. The asymmetric polymerization of 4′‐isocyanatobenzo‐18‐crown‐6 with the lithium amide of (S)‐(2‐methoxymethyl)pyrrolidine successfully proceeded to afford end‐functionalized poly(4′‐isocyanatobenzo‐18‐crown‐6) with (S)‐(2‐methoxymethyl)pyrrolidine (polymer 2 ). In the circular dichroism (CD) spectrum of 2 , a clear positive Cotton effect was observed in the range of 240–350 nm corresponding to the absorption of the polymer backbone, indicating that 2 partially formed a one‐handed helical structure, which was preserved by the chirality of (S)‐(2‐methoxymethyl)pyrrolidine bonding to the terminal end in 2 . In the titration experiments for the CD intensity of 2 in the presence of D ‐ and L ‐Phe·HClO4 (where Phe is phenylalanine), a small but remarkable difference was observed in the amount of the chiral guest needed for saturation of the CD intensity and in the saturated CD intensity, indicating that the extremely stable, one‐handed helical part should exist in the main chain of 2 , which was not inverted even when the unfavorable chiral guest for the predominant helical sense, L ‐Phe·HClO4, was added. In addition, helical polymer 2 exhibited a chiral discrimination ability toward racemic guests; that is, the guests were extracted from the aqueous phase into the organic phase with enantiomeric excess. The driving force of the chiral discrimination ability of 2 should certainly be attributed to the one‐handed helical structure in 2 . © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. High nuclearity paramagnetic, spin-coupled transition metal clusters and grids are fascinating chemists and physicists partly because of their structural beauty, and the challenge of creating them, but also because of their novel physical properties. Magnetic interactions between the spin centers are a primary focus. This review will examine a selection of Mn(II) polynuclear grids and clusters, with nuclearities in the range Mn4 to Mn9. Theoretical treatments of the magnetic properties are discussed, and approaches to solving the exchange problem for ‘large’ spin systems related to computational difficulties. A freely available software package (MAGMUN4.1) is presented as a means of dealing simply with spin-coupled clusters in general, and symmetry reduction methods are discussed briefly as a means of dealing with ‘large’ spin systems.  相似文献

Solubility and apparent molar volume data are used to demonstrate effects of amide alkylation on amide-water interactions at 25° C. Precise measurements were made of the apparent molar volumes of the amides in binary amide-water mixtures using a dilatometric technique. The results show that the apparent molar volumes of alkyl-substituted amides in water pass through a minimum at an amide concentration which varies inversely with the degree of alkylation. Further studies showed that the solubilities of methyl paraben (methyl-p-hydroxybenzoate) and naphthalene in various amide-water solvent systems increased in characteristic fashion with amide alkylation.  相似文献

This paper investigates, in the context of discrete-time switched systems, the problem of comparison for path-complete stability certificates. We introduce and study abstract operations on path-complete graphs, called lifts, which allow us to recover previous results in a general framework. Moreover, this approach highlights the existing relations between the analytical properties of the chosen set of candidate Lyapunov functions (the template) and the admissibility of certain lifts. This provides a new methodology for the characterization of the ordering relation of path-complete Lyapunov functions criteria, when a particular template is chosen. We apply our results to specific templates, notably the sets of primal and dual copositive norms, providing new stability certificates for positive switched systems. These tools are finally illustrated with the aim of numerical examples.  相似文献

This paper presents a systematicnonperturbative derivation of a hierarchy of closed systems of moment equations corresponding to any classical kinetic theory. The first member of the hierarchy is the Euler system, which is based on Maxwellian velocity distributions, while the second member is based on nonisotropic Gaussian velocity distributions. The closure proceeds in two steps. The first ensures that every member of the hierarchy is hyperbolic, has an entropy, and formally recovers the Euler limit. The second involves modifying the collisional terms so that members of the hierarchy beyound the second also recover the correct Navier-Stokes behavior. This is achieved through the introduction of a generalization of the BGK collision operator. The simplest such system in three spatial dimensions is a 14-moment closure, which also recovers the behavior of the Grad 13-moment system when the velocity distributions lie near local Maxwellians. The closure procedure can be applied to a general class of kinetic theories.  相似文献

Summary The network model developed in a previous paper is applied to the simple shear flow of polymer melts. The constitutive equation obtained consists of two terms. One of them describes the stress due to the network strands which exist at the onset of the deformation, dissociate during the deformation and result in a single integral constitutive equation with a strain dependent damping function. The formulation of the damping function in invariant form seems to be almost impossible.The second normal stress differenceN 2 of the model is not zero,but has negative values. According to our model this is a consequence of the deformation dependence of the disentanglement process. The theory is compared with experimental data for a LDPE melt. It is found that the model explains the main features of the shear flow behaviour of the LDPE melt investigated preciously.
Zusammenfassung Das Netzwerk-Modell, das in einer vorangegangenen Arbeit entwickelt wurde, wird für die einfache Scherströmung von Polymerschelzen angewendet. Die abgeleitete rheologische Zustandsgleichung besteht aus zwei Gliedern. Das erste beschreibt die Spannung-Dehnung-Beziehung der Kettensegmente, die zu Beginn der Deformation existieren und während der Deformation aufgelöst werden. Es hat die Form der einfachen Integralbeziehung mit einer Gedächtnisfunktion. Es ist kaum möglich, die dabei erhaltene Gedächtnisfunktion als Funktion der Invarianten der der Tensoren darzustellen. Die zweite Normal-SpannungsdifferenzN 2 des Modells ist nicht Null und hat einen negativen Wert. Dies ist nach unserem Modell eine Folge der Deformationsabhängigkeit des Entschlaufungsprozesses. Die Theorie wird mit dem experimentellen Daten für eine LDPE-Schmelze verglichen, wobei sich zeigt, daß das Modell die wesentlichen Merkmale des Scherverhaltens der LDPE-Schmelze gut erklärt.
