Some necessary and sufficient conditions for Hypercyclicity Criterion

We give necessary and sufficient conditions for an operator on a separable Hilbert space to satisfy the hypercyclicity criterion. This paper is a part of the second author’s Doctoral thesis, written at Shiraz University under the direction of the first author.     

Analysis of nonsmooth vector-valued functions associated with infinite-dimensional second-order cones

Given a Hilbert space H, the infinite-dimensional Lorentz/second-order cone K is introduced. For any x∈H, a spectral decomposition is introduced, and for any function f:R→R, we define a corresponding vector-valued function f^H(x) on Hilbert space H by applying f to the spectral values of the spectral decomposition of x∈H with respect to K. We show that this vector-valued function inherits from f the properties of continuity, Lipschitz continuity, differentiability, smoothness, as well as s-semismoothness. These results can be helpful for designing and analyzing solution methods for solving infinite-dimensional second-order cone programs and complementarity problems.     

Blow-up criterion for compressible MHD equations

In this paper, we study the 3D compressible magnetohydrodynamic equations. We obtain a blow up criterion for the local strong solutions just in terms of the gradient of the velocity, similar to the Beal-Kato-Majda criterion (see J.T. Beal, T. Kato and A. Majda (1984) [1]) for the ideal incompressible flow. In addition, initial vacuum is allowed in our case.     

On the convergence rate of grad-div stabilized Taylor-Hood to Scott-Vogelius solutions for incompressible flow problems

It was recently proven in Case et al. (2010) [2] that, under mild restrictions, grad-div stabilized Taylor-Hood solutions of Navier-Stokes problems converge to the Scott-Vogelius solution of that same problem. However, even though the analytical rate was only shown to be (where γ is the stabilization parameter), the computational results suggest the rate may be improvable to γ−1. We prove herein the analytical rate is indeed γ−1, and extend the result to other incompressible flow problems including Leray-α and MHD. Numerical results are given that verify the theory.     

Bayesian Variable Selection on Model Spaces Constrained by Heredity Conditions

This article investigates Bayesian variable selection when there is a hierarchical dependence structure on the inclusion of predictors in the model. In particular, we study the type of dependence found in polynomial response surfaces of orders two and higher, whose model spaces are required to satisfy weak or strong heredity conditions. These conditions restrict the inclusion of higher-order terms depending upon the inclusion of lower-order parent terms. We develop classes of priors on the model space, investigate their theoretical and finite sample properties, and provide a Metropolis–Hastings algorithm for searching the space of models. The tools proposed allow fast and thorough exploration of model spaces that account for hierarchical polynomial structure in the predictors and provide control of the inclusion of false positives in high posterior probability models.     

一类强非线性偏微分方程组初边值问题之逆算符解法新探

对填充床催化反应器的数学模型──一类强非线性偏微分方程级─边值问题,用逆算符法求其近似解析解,提出了用“部分解的几何平均”替代“部分解的算术平均”的新方法．从而较园满地给出了此类方程组初─边值问题的近似解析解．     

完全与截尾样本时半参数回归模型估计的强相合性

对于固定设计下的半参数回归模型：ｙ_ｉ=ｘｉβ＋ｇ（ｔｉ）＋ｅｉ,ｉ＝１,…,ｎ．其中｛ｅｉ｝为独立随机误差序列（不必同分布）,且Ｅｅｉ＝０,Ｅｅｉ２＝σ_ｉ~２＞０．对完全和截尾样本,仿文献［２］给出了β、ｇ（·）的估计量,并证明了他们的强相合性．     

Piecewise homotopy perturbation method for solving linear and nonlinear weakly singular VIE of second kind

The purpose of this paper is to obtain the approximation solution of linear and strong nonlinear weakly singular Volterra integral equation of the second kind, especially for such a situation that the equation is of nonsmooth solution and the situation that the problem is a strong nonlinear problem. For this purpose, we firstly make a transform to the equation such that the solution of the new equation is as smooth as we like. Through modifying homotopy perturbation method, an algorithm is successfully established to solve the linear and nonlinear weakly singular Volterra integral equation of the second kind. And the convergence of the algorithm is proved strictly. Comparisons are made between our method and other methods, and the results reveal that the modified homotopy perturbation is effective.     

Ground-state correlation energy of counterions at a charged planar wall: Gibbs-Bogoliubov lower-bound approach

Recent simulation results imply the lowering of the ground-state correlation energy per counterion at a charged planar wall, compared with that of the 2D and 3D one-component plasma systems. Our aim is to correctly evaluate the ground-state energy of strongly-coupled counterion systems by considering a quasi-2D bound state where bound counterions are confined to a layer of molecular thickness. We use a variational approach based on the Gibbs-Bogoliubov inequality for the lower-bound free energy so that the liquid-state theory can be incorporated into the formulations. The soft mean spherical approximation demonstrates that the lowered ground-state energy can be reproduced by the obtained analytical form of a quasi-2D bound state.
