Double Hall algebras and derived equivalences

We show that the reduced Drinfeld double of the Ringel-Hall algebra of a hereditary category is invariant under derived equivalences. By associating an explicit isomorphism to a given derived equivalence, we also extend the results of Burban and Schiffmann [5] and [006], Sevenhant and Van den Bergh (1999) [25], and Xiao and Yang (2001) [31].     

Arithmetic partial differential equations, II

We continue the study of arithmetic partial differential equations initiated in [7] by classifying “arithmetic convection equations” on modular curves, and by describing their space of solutions. Certain of these solutions involve the Fourier expansions of the Eisenstein modular forms of weight 4 and 6, while others involve the Serre-Tate expansions (Mori, 1995 [13], Buium, 2003 [4]) of the same modular forms; in this sense, our arithmetic convection equations can be seen as “unifying” the two types of expansions. The theory can be generalized to one of “arithmetic heat equations” on modular curves, but we prove that they do not carry “arithmetic wave equations.” Finally, we prove an instability result for families of arithmetic heat equations converging to an arithmetic convection equation.     

Fast computation of Hermite normal forms of random integer matrices

This paper is about how to compute the Hermite normal form of a random integer matrix in practice. We propose significant improvements to the algorithm by Micciancio and Warinschi, and extend these techniques to the computation of the saturation of a matrix. We describe the fastest implementation for computing Hermite normal form for large matrices with large entries.     

Cohomology of the Schrdinger Algebra S(1)

We explicitly compute the first and second cohomology groups of the Schrdinger algebra S(1) with coefficients in the trivial module and the finite-dimensional irreducible modules.We also show that the first and second cohomology groups of S(1) with coefficients in the universal enveloping algebras U(S(1))(under the adjoint action) are infinite dimensional.     

The Effects of a Mathematics Infusion Curriculum on Middle School Student Mathematics Achievement

Increasing mathematical competencies of American students has been a focus for educators, researchers, and policy makers alike. One purported approach to increase student learning is through connecting mathematics and science curricula. Yet there is a lack of research examining the impact of making these connections. The Mathematics Infusion into Science Project, funded by the National Science Foundation, developed a middle school mathematics‐infused science curriculum. Twenty teachers utilized this curriculum with over 1,200 students. The current research evaluated the effects of this curriculum on students' mathematics learning and compared effects to students who did not receive the curriculum. Students who were taught the infusion curriculum showed a significant increase in mathematical content scores when compared with the control students.     

The maximal Abelian dimension of linear algebras formed by strictly upper triangular matrices

We compute the largest dimension of the Abelian Lie subalgebras contained in the Lie algebra of n×n strictly upper triangular matrices, where n ∈ ℕ \ {1}. We do this by proving a conjecture, which we previously advanced, about this dimension.
