Synthesis of New Pyrimidine,Quinazoline and Diazatricyclo Derivatives by Multicomponent Reaction and Evaluation of Their Biological Activity

Abstract

A series of new pyrimidine and quinazoline derivatives was synthesized by a Biginelli-like reaction of urea/thiourea, aldehyde, and ketone in the presence of hydrochloric acid as a catalyst. In a similar way, some novel diazatricyclo derivatives were obtained via a Biginelli-like reaction followed by an intramolecular Michael-type addition. The yields of products were reasonable after recrystallization from ethanol. All newly synthesized compounds were characterized using IR and NMR (¹H and ¹³C) spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The antibacterial activity of these compounds was investigated against Staphylococcus aureus (RTCC, 1885), and Escherichia Coli (ATCC, 35922).

Electrophilic and Nucleophilic Addition of Alkanethiols to 2-Vinyloxyethylmethacrylate

Under acid- or base-catalyzed conditions, thiols add regio- and chemos-electively either to vinyloxy or methacrylate group of vinyloxyalkyl-methacrylates to give polyfunctional methacrylates or polyfunctional vinyl ethers, respectively.     

Dioxane Dibromide–Mediated Solvent‐Free Synthesis of Vicinal Dibromides

Structurally varied vicinal dibromides have been synthesized in high yield and good purity through highly stereoselective anti‐addition of bromine across the olefinic linkages using dioxane dibromide (DD) under solvent‐free conditions.     

Enantioselective Total Synthesis of 3β‐Hydroxy‐7β‐kemp‐8(9)‐en‐6‐one,a Diterpene Isolated from Higher Termites

The first total synthesis of the title diterpene was accomplished starting from the Wieland–Miescher ketone. A diastereoselective sulfa‐Michael addition enabled the generation of the delicate β,γ‐unsaturated ketone moiety, while the tetracyclic kempane skeleton was readily constructed through domino metathesis.     

An active and selective heterogeneous catalytic system for Michael addition

Potassium fluoride doped natural zeolite was found to be an efficient and selective solid base catalyst for 1,4-Michael addition. The catalyst is easily prepared and the workup procedure simplified by simple filtration.All products were obtained in high yields as well as short reaction times.     

Electrolytes for quasi solid‐state dye‐sensitized solar cells based on block copolymers

The first use of PS_n‐b‐PEO_m‐b‐PS_n block copolymers (PS = polystyrene, PEO = poly(ethylene oxide)) as solid hosts for iodine/iodide electrolytes in dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) is described. Using the benchmark photosensitizer N719, DSSC based on the quasi solid‐state electrolytes afforded efficiencies up to 6.7%, to be compared with an efficiency of 7.3% obtained in similar conditions with a conventional iodine/iodide liquid electrolyte. By varying the PS:PEO relative volume ratio in the block copolymers different properties and morphologies were obtained. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym.
