This paper is devoted to the numerical study of diffraction by periodic structures of plane waves under oblique incidence. For this situation Maxwell's equations can be reduced to a system of two Helmholtz equations in R 2 coupled via quasiperiodic transmission conditions on the piecewise smooth interfaces between different materials. The numerical analysis is based on a strongly elliptic variational formulation of the differential problem in a bounded periodic cell involving nonlocal boundary operators. We obtain existence and uniqueness results for discrete solutions and provide the corresponding error analysis.  相似文献

Several a priori tests of a systematic stochastic mode reduction procedure recently devised by the authors [Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. 96 (1999) 14687; Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 54 (2001) 891] are developed here. In this procedure, reduced stochastic equations for a smaller collections of resolved variables are derived systematically for complex nonlinear systems with many degrees of freedom and a large collection of unresolved variables. While the above approach is mathematically rigorous in the limit when the ratio of correlation times between the resolved and the unresolved variables is arbitrary small, it is shown here on a systematic hierarchy of models that this ratio can be surprisingly big. Typically, the systematic reduced stochastic modeling yields quantitatively realistic dynamics for ratios as large as 1/2. The examples studied here vary from instructive stochastic triad models to prototype complex systems with many degrees of freedom utilizing the truncated Burgers–Hopf equations as a nonlinear heat bath. Systematic quantitative tests for the stochastic modeling procedure are developed here which involve the stationary distribution and the two-time correlations for the second and fourth moments including the resolved variables and the energy in the resolved variables. In an important illustrative example presented here, the nonlinear original system involves 102 degrees of freedom and the reduced stochastic model predicted by the theory for two resolved variables involves both nonlinear interaction and multiplicative noises. Even for large value of the correlation time ratio of the order of 1/2, the reduced stochastic model with two degrees of freedom captures the essentially nonlinear and non-Gaussian statistics of the original nonlinear systems with 102 modes extremely well. Furthermore, it is shown here that the standard regression fitting of the second-order correlations alone fails to reproduce the nonlinear stochastic dynamics in this example.  相似文献

We consider a compressible viscous fluid with the velocity at infinity equal to a strictly non‐zero constant vector in ?3. Under the assumptions on the smallness of the external force and velocity at infinity, Novotny–Padula (Math. Ann. 1997; 308 :439– 489) proved the existence and uniqueness of steady flow in the class of functions possessing some pointwise decay. In this paper, we study stability of the steady flow with respect to the initial disturbance. We proved that if H3‐norm of the initial disturbance is small enough, then the solution to the non‐stationary problem exists uniquely and globally in time, which satisfies a uniform estimate on prescribed velocity at infinity and converges to the steady flow in Lq‐norm for any number q? 2. High temperature oxidation of metals leads to residual stresses both in the metal and in the growing oxide. In this work, the evolution of this residual stresses is theoretically predicted in the growing oxide layers. The origin of these stresses is based on a microstructural model. Using experimental results providing from the oxidation kinetics, and an analysis proposed to describe the growth strain occurring in the thin layers, a set of equations is established allowing determining the stresses evolution with oxidation time. Then, the model is compared with experimental results obtained on both α-Fe and phosphated α-Fe, oxidised at different temperatures. Numerical data are extracted from experiments either with an asymptotic formulation or with an inverse method. These two methods give good agreement with experiments and allow extracting the model parameters.  相似文献

In this article, we will derive an equality, where the Taylor series expansion around ε = 0for any asymptotical analytical solution of the perturbed partial differential equation (PDE) with perturbing parameter ε must be admitted.By making use of the equality, we may obtain a transformation, which directly map the analytical solutions of a given unperturbed PDE to the asymptotical analytical solutions of the corresponding perturbed one. The notion of Lie-B(a)cklund symmetries is introduced in order to obtain more transformations. Hence, we can directly create more transformations in virtue of known Lie-B(a)cklund symmetries and recursion operators of corresponding unperturbed equation. The perturbed Burgers equation and the perturbed Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation are used as examples.  相似文献

This paper deals with positive solutions of degenerate and quasilinear parabolic systems not in divergence form: ut=up(Δu+av), vt=vq(Δv+bu), with null Dirichlet boundary conditions and positive initial conditions, where p, q, a and b are all positive constants. The local existence and uniqueness of classical solution are proved. Moreover, it will be proved that all solutions exist globally if and only if ab?λ12, where λ1 is the first eigenvalue of −Δ in Ω with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition.  相似文献
