Following Elkies (Internat. Math. Res. Notices7 (1991) 99-109) and Bombieri (Roth's theorem and the abc-conjecture, preprint, ETH Zürich, 1994), we show that the ABC conjecture implies the one-dimensional case of Vojta's height inequality. The main geometric tool is the construction of a Belyǐ function. We take care to make explicit the effectivity of the result: we show that an effective version of the ABC conjecture would imply an effective version of Roth's theorem, as well as giving an (in principle) explicit bound on the height of rational points on an algebraic curve of genus at least two.  相似文献

Motivated by the theory of phase transition dynamics, we consider one-dimensional, nonlinear hyperbolic conservation laws with nonconvex flux-function containing vanishing nonlinear diffusive-dispersive terms. Searching for traveling wave solutions, we establish general results of existence, uniqueness, monotonicity, and asymptotic behavior. In particular, we investigate the properties of the traveling waves in the limits of dominant diffusion, dominant dispersion, and asymptotically small or large shock strength. As the diffusion and dispersion parameters tend to 0, the traveling waves converge to shock wave solutions of the conservation law, which either satisfy the classical Oleinik entropy criterion or are nonclassical undercompressive shocks violating it.  相似文献

(t,m,s)‐nets are point sets in Euclidean s‐space satisfying certain uniformity conditions, for use in numerical integration. They can be equivalently described in terms of ordered orthogonal arrays, a class of finite geometrical structures generalizing orthogonal arrays. This establishes a link between quasi‐Monte Carlo methods and coding theory. The ambient space is a metric space generalizing the Hamming space of coding theory. We denote it by NRT space (named after Niederreiter, Rosenbloom and Tsfasman). Our main results are generalizations of coding‐theoretic constructions from Hamming space to NRT space. These comprise a version of the Gilbert‐Varshamov bound, the (u,u+υ)‐construction and concatenation. We present a table of the best known parameters of q‐ary (t,m,s)‐nets for qε{2,3,4,5} and dimension m≤50. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. For a general dyadic grid, we give a Calderón–Zygmund type decomposition, which is the principle fact about the multilinear maximal function on the upper half‐spaces. Using the decomposition, we study the boundedness of . We obtain a natural extension to the multilinear setting of Muckenhoupt's weak‐type characterization. We also partially obtain characterizations of Muckenhoupt's strong‐type inequalities with one weight. Assuming the reverse Hölder's condition, we get a multilinear analogue of Sawyer's two weight theorem. Moreover, we also get Hytönen–Pérez type weighted estimates.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to establish a well‐posedness result for a boundary value problem of transmission‐type for the standard and generalized Brinkman systems in two Lipschitz domains in , the former being bounded, and the latter, its complement in . As a first step, we establish a well‐posedness result for a transmission problem for the standard Brinkman systems on complementary Lipschitz domains in by making use of the Potential theory developed for such a system. As a second step, we prove our desired result (in L2‐based Sobolev spaces) by using a method based on Fredholm operator theory and the well‐posedness result from the previous step.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the existence of traveling wave solutions in delayed higher dimensional lattice differential systems with partial monotonicity. By relaxing the monotonicity of the upper solutions and allowing it greater than positive equilibrium point, we establish the existence of traveling wave solutions by means of Schauder's fixed point theorem. And then, we apply our results to delayed competition‐cooperation systems on higher dimensional lattices.  相似文献

In this article, we study the eigenvalues of p‐fractional Hardy operator where , , , and Ω is an unbounded domain in with Lipschitz boundary containing 0. The weight function V may change sign and may have singular points. We also show that the least positive eigenvalue is simple and it is uniquely associated to a nonnegative eigenfunction. On any denumerable product of probability spaces, we construct a Malliavin gradient and then a divergence and a number operator. This yields a Dirichlet structure which can be shown to approach the usual structures for Poisson and Brownian processes. We obtain versions of almost all the classical functional inequalities in discrete settings which show that the Efron–Stein inequality can be interpreted as a Poincaré inequality or that the Hoeffding decomposition of U-statistics can be interpreted as an avatar of the Clark representation formula. Thanks to our framework, we obtain a bound for the distance between the distribution of any functional of independent variables and the Gaussian and Gamma distributions.  相似文献
