Teichmüller Extensibility of Circle Homeomorphisms

In this paper a condition is obtained in terms of Dirichlet's integral, for a sense-preserving homeomorphism between the unit circumferences to be prolonged into the interior of disk quasiconformally or as extremal Teichmüller mapping, which sharpens and simplifies the widely known theorems by Teichmüller [ Abh. Preuss. Akad. Wiss. Math. Naturw. Kl. 22 (1939) 1-197], Ahlfors [ J. d'Anal. Math ., 3 (1953/54) 1-98], Hamilton [ Trans. Amer. Math. Soc ., 138 (1969) 399-406], Reich [ Ann. Acad. Sci. Fenn. Ser. A. I. Math . 10 (1985) 469-475], Strebel [ Comment. Math. Helv. , 39 (1964) 77-89], Beurling and Ahlfors [ Acta Math ., 96 (1956) 125-142].     

Linear Fractional Transformation Methods in $ {\shadC}^n $

We consider the generalization of linear fractional transformations of the plane to $ {\shadC}^n $ . Analogs of the one-variable theory are developed including fixed point sets and points of symmetry. The domains in $ {\shadC}^n $ that are images of the ball under these transformations are found. Finally, we see some examples where classical fixed point results follow from this theory in a natural way.     

A Note on Cyclic Vectors for the Shift

We strengthen a result in the literature that gives a necessary condition for the shift on the Hardy space H 2 ( G ) of some bounded, simply connected region G to be cyclic. Part of this involves a characterization, in terms of ‘ G , of what it means for G to be the image of under a conformal map whose boundary values are univalent a.e. m (normalized Lebesgue measure on ).

On the Residual Finiteness of Outer Automorphisms of Hyperbolic Groups

We show that every virtually torsion-free subgroup of the outer automorphism group of a conjugacy separable hyperbolic group is residually finite. As a result, we are able to prove that the group of outer automorphisms of every finitely generated Fuchsian group and of every free-by-finite group is residually finite.
