A generalization of Dahlberg's theorem concerning the regularity of harmonic Green potentials

Dahlberg proved that for a bounded Lipschitz domain maps boundedly into weak- and that there exists such that is bounded for . In this paper, we generalize this result by addressing two aspects. First we are also able to treat the solution operator corresponding to Neumann boundary conditions and, second, we prove mapping properties for these operators acting on Sobolev (rather than Lebesgue) spaces.

     

Morrey global bounds and quasilinear Riccati type equations below the natural exponent

We obtain global bounds in Lorentz–Morrey spaces for gradients of solutions to a class of quasilinear elliptic equations with low integrability data. The results are then applied to obtain sharp existence results in the framework of Morrey spaces for Riccati type equations with a gradient source term having growths below the natural exponent of the operator involved. A special feature of our results is that they hold under a very general assumption on the nonlinear structure, and under a mild natural restriction on the boundary of the ground domain.

A symmetric BEM–FEM method for an axisymmetric eddy current problem

This paper deals with the numerical solution of the time-harmonic eddy current model in an axisymmetric unbounded domain. To this end, a new symmetric BEM–FEM formulation is derived and also analyzed. Moreover, error estimates for the corresponding discretization are proven.

A time domain analysis of the equations governing wave propagation in an unbounded chiral medium is presented by a spectral family approach and by a direct eigenfunction expansion using Beltrami–Moses fields.     

Quenching rate for a nonlocal problem arising in the micro-electro mechanical system

In this paper, we study the quenching rate of the solution for a nonlocal parabolic problem which arises in the study of the micro-electro mechanical system. This question is equivalent to the stabilization of the solution to the transformed problem in self-similar variables. First, some a priori estimates are provided. In order to construct a Lyapunov function, due to the lack of time monotonicity property, we then derive some very useful and challenging estimates by a delicate analysis. Finally, with this Lyapunov function, we prove that the quenching rate is self-similar which is the same as the problem without the nonlocal term, except the constant limit depends on the solution itself.

A Cautionary note on modeling with fractional Lévy flights

Temporal scaling and infinite variance are two stylized features often seen together in times series of complex systems. We find that because of their infinite moments samples from fractional Lévy flights produce bi-linear scaling functions which may be incorrectly attributed as evidence of multifractality. We argue that it is unnecessary to consider truncated fractional Lévy flights which are inherently problematic.
