Sources and Sinks in Comparability Graphs

We prove that a subset S of vertices of a comparability graph G is a source set if and only if each vertex of S is a source and there is no odd induced path in G between two vertices of S. We also characterize pairs of subsets corresponding to sources and sinks, respectively. Finally, an application to interval graphs is obtained.     

Propagation of partially coherent Gaussian laser beams in graded-index fibres

Using statistical approach the author has solved the equations for the mutual coherence function of partially coherent Gaussian laser beams in graded-index fibres. The expressions for the complex degree of coherence and the intensity distribution have also been shown that the self-focusing length inside the fibre depends upon the degree of coherence. The result have been discussed for both conical and cylindrical guides.     

VHE gamma-ray sources and implications

Summary This paper highlights the status of very high-energy (VHE) gamma-ray astronomy with emphasis on the astrophysical significance of the discovery of TeV γ-radiation from four celestial objects, Crab Nebula, PSR B1706-44, Mrk 421 and Mrk 501, detected at very high confidence levels using the atmospheric Cherenkov imaging technique. Application of self-consistent HMO theory to heteroconjugated molecules

Substantial improvement of the self-consistent HMO theory, as recently developed by one of us, is made in the parametrization for heterobonds. The theory is extensively applied to a large scale of heteroconjugated molecules including rather complicated ones which are biologically important. The calculated molecular geometries and the wavelengths of optical absorption spectra are found to be in good agreement with experimental values. Examining the effect of inclusion of the -technique to this theory, we find that the calculated values of molecular geometries, electronic spectra and ionization potentials are little affected for most molecules. Dependences of the absorption wavelength and the adiabatic potential on the molecular geometry are also investigated.     

Frequency doubling of a fibre-amplified 1083 nm DBR laser

A good frequency standard is required at 1083 nm for measurements on the fine structure of helium and of the fine structure constant. Several milliwatts of CW frequency-doubled light offers the prospect of stabilisation to a Doppler-free hyperfine transition in molecular iodine. The 1083 nm emission of an extended-cavity DBR diode laser has been amplified using an ytterbium-doped fibre amplifier, and applied to a type-I phase matched Mg:LiNbO₃ crystal in a high-Q fundamental-resonant cavity for frequency doubling. The amplifier gain at 1083 nm under typical operating conditions was 13.8 dB, with a coherent output power up to 63 mW, limited by the maximum signal input power. The doubling cavity Q was , and about 70% of the incident power was coupled in. The maximum 2nd-harmonic conversion efficiency exceeded 20% and provided an output power of 3.7 mW for making continuous frequency scans of up to 600 MHz in the green. An optical spectrum analyser at 541.5 nm showed fringes of 4.6 MHz full width half maximum, close to the instrumental width. Received: 25 February 1998 / Revised and Accepted: 28 May 1998     

海面波浪坡度场光学测量装置的光源设计(英文)

在海面波浪坡度场光学测量系统中,光源是一个非常重要的照明元件。合理的设计和选用光源,是保证系统精度和布局的重要因素之一。比较传统光源短弧氙灯的明显优势,如低能耗,寿命长,更好的安全性和稳定性等,本文提出了采用LED作为本系统光源的设想,确定了所需LED个数和LED阵列方式,并经过计算和光学软件模拟,验证了本设想的可行性。

N-soliton solutions of the hierarchy of non-isospectral mKdV equation with self-consistent sources and the hierarchy of non-isospectral sine-Gordon equation with self-consistent sources are obtained via the inverse scattering transform.     

Multiplicity of solutions of weighted (p,q)-Laplacian with small source

In this article, we study the existence of infinitely many solutions to the degenerate quasilinear elliptic system-div(h_1(x)|▽u|~(p-2)▽u)=d(x)|u|~(r-2)u+G_u(x,u,v) in Ω,-div(h_2(x)|▽u|~(p-2)▽v)=f(x)|v|~(s-2)v + G_u(x,u,v) in Ω,u=v=0 on ■Ω where Ω is a bonded domain in R~N with smooth boundary ■Ω,N≥2,1 r p ∞,1 s q ∞; h_1(x) and h_2(x) are allowed to have "essential" zeroes at some points inΩ; d(x)|u|~(r-2)u and f(x)|v|~(s-2)v are small sources with Gu(x,u,v), Gv(x,u,v) being their high-order perturbations with respect to(u,v) near the origin, respectively.     

On the entropy method and exponential convergence to equilibrium for a recombination–drift–diffusion system with self-consistent potential

We consider a Shockley–Read–Hall recombination–drift–diffusion model coupled to Poisson’s equation and subject to boundary conditions, which imply conservation of the total charge. As main result, we derive an explicit functional inequality between relative entropy and entropy production rate, which implies exponential convergence to equilibrium with explicit constant and rate. We report that the key entropy–entropy production inequality ought rather not to be formulated on the states space of the parabolic–elliptic system, but on the reduced states space of the associated nonlocal drift–diffusion problem, where the Poisson equation is replaced by the corresponding Green function.
