Preparation and characterization of theβ-cyclodextrin inclusion complex with sulfafurazole

The 1 : 1 inclusion complex involving sulfafurazole (SF) and-cyclodextrin (-CD) is prepared by the freeze-drying method and characterized on the basis of its chemical analysis, thermal behavior, infrared spectrum, X-ray powder pattern and¹³C NMR spectrum in DMSO-d₆ solution. The stability constant of the inclusion complex was determined by the solubility method. The effect of cyclodextrin on the UV absorption spectrum of sulfafurazole was also observed.     

Cyclotomic units over finite fields

Let ζ be a primitivesp-th root of unity for a primep>2, and consider the group Ω(ζ) of cyclotomic units in the ringR(ζ)=ℒ[ζ+ζ^-1]. This paper deals with the image of Ω(ζ) in the unit group ofR(ζ)/qR(ζ), whereq is a prime ≠p. In particular, it obtains criteria for this image to be essentially everything, and a lower bound on the density of primesp (withq fixed) for which it cannot be. These results have a direct bearing on previous work about units in integral group rings for cyclic groups of orderpq. Work supported in part by an operating grant from NSERC (Canada).

Local structure of graphs with λ=μ=2,a 2=4

Several properties of graphs with ==2,a ₂=4 are studied. It is proved that such graphs are locally unions of triangles, hexagons or heptagons. As a consequence, a distance regular graph with intersection array (13,10,7;1,2,7) does not exist.     

Codimensionm isometric immersions between pseudo-spheres

We describe all isometric immersionsf:S _p ⁿ S _p ^+1/n+m ,n –p 2m, whose first normal space is -parallel in the complement of totally geodesic points while the set of totally geodesic points does not disconnectS _p ⁿ .     

Symmetric planes with non-classical tangent translation planes

We construct symmetric planes associated with an arbitrary locally compact connected nearfield . If is a proper nearfield, i.e. {;;}, then the tangent translation plane of this symmetric plane is not classical. Smallest maximal snakes of translates of convex domains

LetK be a convex domain. A maximal snake of sizen is a set of non-overlapping translatesK ₁, ...,K _N ofK, whereK _i touchesK _j if and only if |i –j|=1 and no translate ofK can touchK ₁ orK _n without intersecting an additionalK _i ,i=1, ...,n. The size of the smallest maximal snake is proved to be 11 ifK is a parallelogram and to be 10 otherwise.     

Partial regularity for certain classes of polyconvex functionals related to nonlinear elasticity

Consider the variational integral where Ω⊂ℝ ⁿ andp≥n≥2. H: (0, ∞)→[0, ∞) is a smooth convex function such that . We approximateJ by a sequence of regularized functionalsJ _δ whose minimizers converge strongly to anJ-minimizing function and prove partial regularity results forJ _δ-minimizers.     

A discrepancy theorem concerning polynomials of best approximation inL w p [−1, 1]

Letw be a suitable weight function,B _n,p denote the polynomial of best approximation to a functionf inL _w ^p [–1, 1],v _n be the measure that associates a mass of 1/(n+1) with each of then+1 zeros ofB _n+1,p–B _n,p and be the arcsine measure defined by . We estimate the rate at which the sequencev _n converges to in the weak-^* topology.
