On nonoscillatory solutions of differential inclusions

This paper introduces a nonoscillatory theory for differential inclusions based on fixed point theory for multivalued maps.

     

Mbekhta's subspaces and a spectral theory of compact operators

Let be an operator on an infinite-dimensional complex Banach space. By means of Mbekhta's subspaces and , we give a spectral theory of compact operators. The main results are: Let be compact. . The following assertions are all equivalent: (1) 0 is an isolated point in the spectrum of (2) is closed; (3) is of finite dimension; (4) is closed; (5) is of finite dimension; . sufficient conditions for to be an isolated point in ; . sufficient and necessary conditions for to be a pole of the resolvent of .

     

Invariant Tori and Boundedness in Asymmetric Oscillations

In this paper,we are concerned with the boundedness of all the solutions of the equation x″ ax^ -bx- Ф(x)=p(t),where p(t) is a smooth 2π-periodic function,a and b are positive constants,and the perturbation Ф(x) is bounded.     

Three point covers with bad reduction

We study Galois covers of the projective line branched at three points with bad reduction to characteristic , under the condition that strictly divides the order of the Galois group. As an application of our results, we prove that the field of moduli of such a cover is at most tamely ramified at .

     

On certain positive linear operators in polynomial weight spaces

We consider certain modified Szász-Mirakyan operators A _n (f;r) in polynomial weight spaces of functions of one variable and we study approximation properties of these operators. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.     

Empirical likelihood for partial linear models

In this paper the empirical likelihood method due to Owen (1988,Biometrika,75, 237–249) is applied to partial linear random models. A nonparametric version of Wilks' theorem is derived. The theorem is then used to construct confidence regions of the parameter vector in the partial linear models, which has correct asymptotic coverage. A simulation study is conducted to compare the empirical likelihood and normal approximation based method. Flow Compactifications of Nondiscrete Monoids, Idempotents and Hindman's Theorem

We describe the extension of the multiplication on a not-necessarily-discrete topological monoid to its flow compactification. We offer two applications. The first is a nondiscrete version of Hindman's Theorem, and the second is a characterization of the projective minimal and elementary flows in terms of idempotents of the flow compactification of the monoid.     

Maxima of Subexponential Shot-Noise Fields with Finite Radius of Influence

We study the asymptotic behavior of the maxima of shot-noise fields on bounded measurable domains tending to infinity in the sense of van Hove. It is assumed that the radius of influence is finite and the amplitudes are subexponentially distributed. A nondegenerate limiting distribution for the maxima is obtained.     

On Korovkin Type Theorem in the Space of Locally Integrable Functions

It is shown that a Korovkin type theorem for a sequence of linear positive operators acting in weighted space L _p,w (loc) does not hold in all this space and is satisfied only on some subspace.     

Fourier Transformation of the Renormalization-Invariant Coupling

We discuss integral transformations of the QCD renormalization-invariant coupling (running coupling constant). Special attention is paid to the Fourier transformation, i.e., to the transition from the space–time to the energy–momentum representation. Our first conclusion is that the condition for the possibility of such a transition provides one more argument against the real existence of unphysical singularities observed in the perturbative QCD. The second conclusion relates to a way to translate some singular long-wave asymptotic behaviors to the infrared region of transferred momenta. Such a transition must be performed with the Tauberian theorem taken into account. This comment relates to the recent ALPHA collaboration results on the asymptotic behavior of the QCD effective coupling obtained by numerical lattice simulation.
