Photoelectron core levels for enargite,Cu3AsS4

The mineral chemistry of enargite surfaces and near‐surfaces prepared by fracture within an ultrahigh vacuum are investigated using XPS and synchrotron radiation XPS (SRXPS). The purpose of the study is to identify surface core‐level line positions in high‐resolution photoelectron spectra. The XPS spectra obtained using monochromatic Al Kα radiation show that there are near‐identical monosulphide line positions in S 2p spectra for the As–S and Cu–S bonds in enargite. The SRXPS spectra for sulphur are remarkably similar to the XPS spectra for sulphur, showing that there is minimal difference in the chemical environment between sulphur atoms at the surface and in the mineral matrix. The Cu 2p XPS data have only cuprous contributions and a minor surface contribution. The surface Cu contribution is observed as a high‐binding‐energy tail in the Cu 2p_3/2 spectrum. The As 3d data for both XPS and SRXPS show contributions from arsenic atoms at the surface and in the bulk mineral matrix. The surface contribution is distinct and is found 1 eV below the bulk contribution. The results of the study suggest that, following fracture, the enargite surface is reorganized in such a manner that the surface is characterized by protrusions of individual arsenic atoms. Potentiometric studies of dithiooxamide with a sulphide-selective membrane electrode

The sulphide-selective electrode is applicable to the determination of dithiooxamide by titration with silver nitrate. The effect of the alkali content of the solutions on the reaction has been studied. The reaction products are silver sulphide, oxalic acid, and nitric acid. If the alkali concentration of the solution is lower than that equivalent to the acid formed during the titration, the amount of sulphide produced by hydrolysis decreases and the equilibrium potential is established more slowly.The determination is rapid and accurate in the presence of 1 M sodium hydroxide.     

Enantioselective synthesis of functionalized γ-butyrolactones

Sharpless asymmetric dihydroxylation and aminohydroxylation of (E)-dimethyl-2-alkylidene glutarates 2 were shown to afford enantio-enriched or enantiopure highly functionalized γ-butyrolactones 3 and 7.     

Alkylation of 6-(3-Indolyl)indolo[2,3-b]carbazole

The methylation and allylation of 6-(3-indolyl)indolo[2,3-b]carbazole were studied, and its trimethyl and mono-, di-, and triallyl derivatives were obtained.     

Carbonyl allylation of aldehydes catalyzed by a silica-supported poly-γ-diphenylarsinopropylsiloxane palladium(0) complex

A silica-supported poly-γ-diphenylarsinopropylsiloxane palladium(0) complex has been prepared from γ-chloropropyltriethoxysilane via immobilization on fumed silica, followed by reacting with potassium diphenylarsenide and palladium chloride, and then the reduction with hydrazine hydrate. The palladium(0) complex has been found to catalyze the allylation of aldehydes via the formation of π-allylpalladium complexes, using allylic chlorides as allylating agent and SnCl₂ as reducing agent. This polymeric palladium complex can be recovered and reused.     

On the configuration interaction method for singlet states

The direct CI method, which avoids explicit calculation of the Hamiltonian matrix, is presented in a new form. The method is linked with Davidson's algorithm for iterative evaluation of the ground state eigenvector. The viability of the method is indicated by the test calculations on water which are described.     

1H NMR Detection of σ-Adducts in S NH Reactions of Nitroquinolines with Chloromethyl Phenyl Sulfone

The intermediate -adducts of chloromethyl phenyl sulfone with 3-nitro-, 5-nitro-, 6-nitro-, 7-nitro- and 8-nitroquinoline are detected by ¹H NMR spectroscopy.     

Synthesis ofO-methyloximes and nitrones of a series of substituted 4-[2-hydroxy-2-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl)cyclohexylidenemethyl]-benzaldehydes and their fungicidal activity

O-Methyloximes and nitrones of a series of substituted 4-[2-hydroxy-2-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl)cyclohexylidenemethyl]benzaldehydes have been synthesized, and their fungicidal activity has been assayed. All of them exhibit low fungicidal activity in thein vitro assays and high activity in thein vivo assays; theO-methyl oximes are more active than the corresponding nitrones.Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk. Interaction of (1-phenylethyl)indole-2-carbonitrile with C-nucleophiles

Methods of obtaining ketones and enamino esters have been developed on the basis of reactions of 1-(1-phenylethyl)indole-2-carbonitrile with organomagnesium and organozinc compounds. Investigation of the phosphinyl analog of α-ketoglutaric acid

It was shown by³¹P and¹³C NMR spectroscopy that methyl(3-carboxy-3-oxopropyl)phosphinic acid (4-methylhydroxyphosphinyl-2-oxobutyric acid) (1) and the amide (2) of the latter exist in keto forms in non-aqueous solutions. In aqueous solutions an equilibrium between the keto,gem-diol, and enol forms has been observed. The proportions of the diol and enol forms increase as the acidity of the media increases.
