Empirical likelihood inference for the accelerated failure time model

Accelerated failure time (AFT) models are useful regression tools for studying the association between a survival time and covariates. Semiparametric inference procedures have been proposed in an extensive literature. Among these, use of an estimating equation which is monotone in the regression parameter and has some excellent properties was proposed by Fygenson and Ritov (1994). However, there is a serious under-coverage problem for small sample sizes. In this paper, we derive the limiting distribution of the empirical log-likelihood ratio for the regression parameter on the basis of the monotone estimating equations. Furthermore, the empirical likelihood (EL) confidence intervals/regions for the regression parameter are obtained. We conduct a simulation study in order to compare the proposed EL method with the normal approximation method. The simulation results suggest that the empirical likelihood based method outperforms the normal approximation based method in terms of coverage probability. Thus, the proposed EL method overcomes the under-coverage problem of the normal approximation method.

Validity of thermodynamic laws and weak cosmic censorship for AdS black holes and black holes in a cavity

By throwing a test charged particle into a Reissner-Nordstrom (RN) black hole, we test the validity of the first and second laws of thermodynamics and the weak cosmic censorship conjecture (WCCC) with two types of boundary conditions: the asymptotically anti-de Sitter (AdS) space and a Dirichlet cavity wall placed in an asymptotically flat space. For the RN-AdS black hole, the second law of thermodynamics is satisfied, and the WCCC is violated for both extremal and near-extremal black holes. For the RN black hole in a cavity, the entropy can either increase or decrease depending on the change in the charge, and the WCCC is satisfied/violated for the extremal/near-extremal black hole. Our results indicate that there may be a connection between the black hole thermodynamics and the boundary condition imposed on the black hole.     

Strong cosmic censorshiP for a scalar field in a logarithmic-de Sitter black hole

It has been shown that the quasinormal modes of perturebated fields can be used to investigate the validity of strong cosmic censorship(SCC).Relevant issues for Reissner-Nordstrom-de Sitter(RN-dS)black holes and Born-Infeld-de Sitter black holes have been discussed.In this paper,we investigate SCC in an asymptotic RN-dS black hole with logarithmic nonlinear electromagnetic field perturbed by massless scalar fields.It has been argued that SCC can be violated in a near-extremal RN-dS black hole.However,we find that the NLED effect can rescue SCC for a near-extremal logarithmic-de Sitter black hole.Compared with Born-Infeld model,we find that the NLED effect has similar behavior.     

Complexes of Gorenstein Flat Modules and Gorenstein Cotorsion Modules

A complex (C, δ) is called strongly Gorenstein flat if C is exact and Ker δ ⁿ is Gorenstein flat in R-Mod for all n ∈ ?. Let 𝒮𝒢 stand for the class of strongly Gorenstein flat complexes. We show that a complex C of left R-modules over a right coherent ring R is in the right orthogonal class of 𝒮𝒢 if and only if C ⁿ is Gorenstein cotorsion in R-Mod for all n ∈ ? and Hom^.(G, C) is exact for any strongly Gorenstein flat complex G. Furthermore, a bounded below complex C over a right coherent ring R is in the right orthogonal class of 𝒮𝒢 if and only if C ⁿ is Gorenstein cotorsion in R-Mod for all n ∈ ?. Finally, strongly Gorenstein flat covers and 𝒮𝒢^⊥-envelopes of complexes are considered. For a right coherent ring R, we show that every bounded below complex has a 𝒮𝒢^⊥-envelope.     

On a Generalized Finite Intersection Property

We continue the study of the right finite intersection property under a weaker condition on annihilators, introducing the concept of generalized right finite intersection property (simply, generalized right FIP). We observe the structure of rings with the generalized right FIP and examine the generalized right FIP for various kinds of basic extensions of rings with the property. We show that the generalized right FIP does not go up to polynomial rings, and that the 2-by-2 full matrix ring over a domain has the generalized right FIP. In the process, we also obtain an equivalent condition for which a nonzero polynomial, over the ring of integers modulo n ≥ 2, is a non-zero-divisor.     

A basis for the right quantum algebra and the “1=q” principle

We construct a basis for the right quantum algebra introduced by Garoufalidis, Lê and Zeilberger and give a method making it possible to go from an algebra subject to commutation relations (without the variable q) to the right quantum algebra by means of an appropriate weight-function. As a consequence, a strong quantum MacMahon Master Theorem is derived. Besides, the algebra of biwords is systematically in use.

Non-associative algebras containing the matrix ring

The Lie admissible non-associative algebra is defined in the papers [Seul Hee Choi, Ki-Bong Nam, Derivations of a restricted Weyl type algebra I, Rocky Mountain J. Math. 37 (6) (2007) 1813–1830; Seul Hee Choi, Ki-Bong Nam, Weyl type non-associative algebra using additive groups I, Algebra Colloq. 14 (3) (2007) 479–488; Ki-Bong Nam, On Some Non-associative Algebras using Additive Groups, Southeast Asian Bull. Math., vol. 27, Springer-Verlag, 2003, 493–500]. We define in this work the algebra which generalizes the previous one and is not Lie admissible. We prove that the antisymmetrized Lie algebra is simple and contains the simple Lie algebra . We also prove that the matrix ring is embedded in .
