Commutativity of the Arens product in lattice ordered algebras

Let be an Abelian Archimedean lattice ordered algebra. The order bidual furnished with the Arens product is again a lattice ordered algebra. We show that the order continuous order bidual is Abelian. This solves an open problem and improves a result of Scheffold, who proved it for the case of normed lattice ordered algebras. The proof is based on the up-down-up approximation of positive elements in the order continuous order bidual by elements in the canonical image of in Components of positive elements in are characterized and the result is applied to the Arens product of -and almost -algebras.     

Subspaces of Normed Riesz Spaces

It will be shown that a normed partially ordered vector space is linearly, norm, and order isomorphic to a subspace of a normed Riesz space if and only if its positive cone is closed and its norm p satisfies p(x)p(y) for all x and y with -yxy. A similar characterization of the subspaces of M-normed Riesz spaces is given. With aid of the first characterization, Krein's lemma on directedness of norm dual spaces can be directly derived from the result for normed Riesz spaces. Further properties of the norms ensuing from the characterization theorem are investigated. Also a generalization of the notion of Riesz norm is studied as an analogue of the r-norm from the theory of spaces of operators. Both classes of norms are used to extend results on spaces of operators between normed Riesz spaces to a setting with partially ordered vector spaces. Finally, a partial characterization of the subspaces of Riesz spaces with Riesz seminorms is given.     

Generalized Sasaki Projections and Riesz Ideals in Pseudoeffect Algebras

A noncommutative version of generalized Sasaki projections in pseudoeffect algebras is introduced. It is proved that an ideal in a pseudoeffect algebra is Riesz if and only if it is closed under the right and left Sasaki projections. In lattice ordered pseudoeffect algebras, it is shown that generalized Sasaki projections are one-element sets, and their explicit form is found. It is shown that if a supremum of a normal Riesz ideal in a lattice ordered pseudoeffect algebra exists, it is a central element. These results extend those obtained recently by Avallone and Vitolo for effect algebras.     

On an Embedding Criterion for Interpolation Spaces and Application to Indefinite Spectral Problems

An embedding criterion for interpolation spaces is formulated and applied to the study of the Riesz basis property in the L _2,g space of eigenfunctions of an indefinite Sturm–Liouville problem u=gu on the interval (-1,1) with the Dirichlet boundary conditions, provided that the function g(x) changes sign at the origin. In particular, the basis property criterion is established for an odd g(x). Some connections with stability in interpolation scales are discussed.     

A Fourier series formula for energy of measures with applications to Riesz products

In this paper we derive a formula relating the energy and the Fourier transform of a finite measure on the -dimensional torus which is similar to the well-known formula for measures on .

We apply the formula to obtain estimates on the Hausdorff dimension of Riesz product measures. These give improvements on the earlier, classical results which were based on completely different techniques.

     

Divergent Cesàro and Riesz means of Jacobi and Laguerre expansions

We show that for below certain critical indices there are functions whose Jacobi or Laguerre expansions have almost everywhere divergent Cesàro and Riesz means of order .

     

THE SPACE—FRACTIONAL TELEGRAPH EQUATION AND THE RELATED FRACTIONAL TELEGRAPH PROCESS

The space-fractional telegraph equation is analyzed and the Fourier transform of its fundamental solution is obtained and discussed.A symmetric process with discontinuous trajectories, whose transition function satisfies the space-fractional telegraph equation, is presented. Its limiting behaviour and the connection with symmetric stable processes is also examined.     

Additive Jordan isomorphisms of nest algebras on normed spaces

Let X be a real or complex Banach space. Let and be two nest algebras on X. Suppose that φ is an additive bijective mapping from onto such that φ(A²)=φ(A)² for every . Then φ is either a ring isomorphism or a ring anti-isomorphism. Moreover, if X is a real space or an infinite dimensional complex space, then there exists a continuous (conjugate) linear bijective mapping T such that either φ(A)=TAT⁻¹ for every or φ(A)=TA∗T−1 for every .     

A capacitary weak type inequality for Sobolev functions and its applications

In this paper a capacitary weak type inequality for Sobolev functions is established and is applied to reprove some well-known results concerning Lebesgue points, Taylor expansions in the -sense, and the Lusin type approximation of Sobolev functions.
