The level of a function f on Rn encloses a region. The volume of a region between two such levels depends on both levels. Fixing one of them the volume becomes a function of the remaining level. We show that if the function f is smooth, the volume function is again smooth for regular values of f. For critical values of f the volume function is only finitely differentiable. The initial motivation for this study comes from Radiotherapy, where such volume functions are used in an optimization process. Thus their differentiability properties become important.  相似文献

Abstract: In this article, we consider the concave quadratic programming problem which is known to be NP hard. Based on the improved global optimality conditions by [Dür, M., Horst, R. and Locatelli, M., 1998, Necessary and sufficient global optimality conditions for convex maximization revisited, Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, 217, 637–649] and [Hiriart-Urruty, J.B. and Ledyav, J.S., 1996, A note in the characterization of the global maxima of a convex function over a convex set, Journal of Convex Analysis, 3, 55–61], we develop a new approach for solving concave quadratic programming problems. The main idea of the algorithms is to generate a sequence of local minimizers either ending at a global optimal solution or at an approximate global optimal solution within a finite number of iterations. At each iteration of the algorithms we solve a number of linear programming problems with the same constraints of the original problem. We also present the convergence properties of the proposed algorithms under some conditions. The efficiency of the algorithms has been demonstrated with some numerical examples.  相似文献

The present paper introduces a new interfacial marker-level set method (IMLS) which is coupled with the Reynolds averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) equations to predict the turbulence-induced interfacial instability of two-phase flow with moving interface. The governing RANS equations for time-dependent, axisymmetric and incompressible two-phase flow are described in both phases and solved separately using the control volume approach on structured cell-centered collocated grids. The transition from one phase to another is performed through a consistent balance of kinematic and dynamic conditions on the interface separating the two phases. The topological changes of the interface are predicted by applying the level set approach. By fitting a number of interfacial markers on the intersection points of the computational grids with the interface, the interfacial stresses and consequently, the interfacial driving forces are easily estimated. Moreover, the normal interface velocity, calculated at the interfacial markers positions, can be extended to the higher dimensional level set function and used for the interface advection process. The performance of linear and non-linear two-equation kε turbulence models is investigated in the context of the considered two-phase flow impinging problem, where a turbulent gas jet impinging on a free liquid surface. The numerical results obtained are evaluated through the comparison with the available experimental and analytical data. The nonlinear turbulence model showed superiority in predicting the interface deformation resulting from turbulent normal stresses. However, both linear and nonlinear turbulence models showed a similar behavior in predicting the interface deformation due to turbulent tangential stresses. In general, the developed IMLS numerical method showed a remarkable capability in predicting the dynamics of the considered two-phase immiscible flow problems and therefore it can be applied to quite a number of interface stability problems.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a novel level set evolution model in a partial differential equation (PDE) formulation. According to the governing PDE, the evolution of level set function is controlled by two forces, an adaptive driving force and a total variation (TV)-based regularizing force that smoothes the level set function. Due to the adaptive driving force, the evolving level set function can adaptively move up or down in accordance with image information as the evolution proceeds forward in time. As a result, the level set function can be simply initialized to a constant function rather than the widely-used signed distance function or piecewise constant function in existing level set evolution models. Our model completely eliminates the needs of initial contours as well as re-initialization, and so avoids the problems resulted from contours initialization and re-initialization. In addition, the evolution PDE can be solved numerically via a simple explicit finite difference scheme with a significantly larger time step. The proposed model is fast enough for near real-time segmentation applications while still retaining enough accuracy; in general, only a few iterations are needed to obtain segmentation results accurately.  相似文献

Joint optimization of level of repair analysis and spare parts stocks   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
In the field of after sales service logistics for capital goods, generally, METRIC type methods are used to decide where to stock spare parts in a multi-echelon repair network such that a target availability of the capital goods is achieved. These methods generate a trade-off curve of spares investment costs versus backorders. Backorders of spare parts lead to unavailability of the capital goods. Inputs in the spare parts stocking problem are decisions on (1) which components to repair upon failure and which to discard, and (2) at which locations in the repair network to perform the repairs and discards. The level of repair analysis (LORA) can be used to make such decisions in conjunction with the decisions (3) at which locations to deploy resources, such as test equipment that are required to repair, discard, or move components. Since these decisions significantly impact the spare parts investment costs, we propose to solve the LORA and spare parts stocking problems jointly. We design an algorithm that finds efficient solutions. In order for the algorithm to be exact and because of its computational complexity, we restrict ourselves to two-echelon, single-indenture problems. In a computational experiment, we show that solving the joint problem is worthwhile, since we achieve a cost reduction of over 43% at maximum (5.1% on average) compared with using a sequential approach of first solving a LORA and then the spare parts stocking problem.  相似文献

In this paper we propose a variant of the level set formulation for identifying curves separating regions into different phases. In classical level set approaches, the sign of level set functions are utilized to identify up to phases. The novelty in our approach is to introduce a piecewise constant level set function and use each constant value to represent a unique phase. If phases should be identified, the level set function must approach predetermined constants. We just need one level set function to represent unique phases, and this gains in storage capacity. Further, the reinitializing procedure requested in classical level set methods is superfluous using our approach. The minimization functional for our approach is locally convex and differentiable and thus avoids some of the problems with the nondifferentiability of the Delta and Heaviside functions. Numerical examples are given, and we also compare our method with related approaches.

We consider in this paper the homogeneous 1-D wave equation defined on Ω⊂ℝ. Using the Hilbert Uniqueness Method, one may define, for each subset ω⊂Ω, the exact control v ω of minimal L 2(ω×(0,T))-norm which drives to rest the system at a time T>0 large enough. We address the question of the optimal position of ω which minimizes the functional . We express the shape derivative of J as an integral on ω×(0,T) independently of any adjoint solution. This expression leads to a descent direction for J and permits to define a gradient algorithm efficiently initialized by the topological derivative associated with J. The numerical approximation of the problem is discussed and numerical experiments are presented in the framework of the level set approach. We also investigate the well-posedness of the problem by considering a relaxed formulation.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the optimal consumption and portfolio policies with the consumption habit constraints and the terminal wealth downside constraints, that is, here the consumption rate is greater than or equal to some nonnegative process, and the terminal wealth is no less than some positive constant.
