The ultimate state of polymeric materials and laminated and fibrous composites under asymmetric high-cycle loading

The prediction of the high-cycle fatigue strength of polymeric and composite materials in asymmetric loading is considered. The problem is solved on the basis of a nonlinear model of ultimate state allowing us to describe all typical forms of the diagrams of ultimate stresses. The material constants of the model are determined from the results of fatigue tests in symmetric reversed cycling, in a single fatigue test with the minimum stress equal to zero, and in a short-term strength test. The fatigue strength characteristics of some polymers, glass-fiber laminates, glass-fiber-reinforced plastics, organic-fiber-reinforced plastics, and wood laminates in asymmetric tension-compression, bending, and torsion have been calculated and approved experimentally. __________ Translated from Mekhanika Kompozitnykh Materialov, Vol. 44, No. 1, pp. 87–102, January–February, 2008.

THE DYNAMIC BUCKLING OF AN ORTHOTROPIC CYLINDRICAL THIN SHELL UNDER TORSION VARYING AS A POWER FUNCTION OF TIME

The subject of this investigation is to study the buckling of orthotropic cylindricalthin shells under torsion,which is a power function of time.The dynamic stability and compati-bility equations are obtained first.These equations are subsequently reduced to a time dependentdifferential equation with variable coefficient by using Galerkin's method.Finally,the critical dy-namic and static loading,the corresponding wave numbers,the dynamic factors,critical time andcritical impulse are found analytically by applying the Ritz type variational method.Using thoseresults,the effects of the variations of the power of time in the torsion load expression,of theloading parameter,the ratio of the Young's moduli and the ratio of the radius to thickness onthe critical parameters are studied numerically.It is observed that these factors have appreciableeffects on the critical parameters of the problem in the heading.

Euler Characteristics on virtually free products

We define Euler characteristics on classes of residually finite and virtually torsion free groups and we show that they satisfy certain formulas in the case of amalgamated free products and HNN extensions over finite subgroups. These formulas are obtained from a general result which applies to the rank gradient and the first L²?Betti number of a finitely generated group.     

Group-theoretical investigation of the tunneling splitting patterns of enolic acetylacetone

Extensive experimental and theoretical studies for enolic acetylacetone have been presented in the literature, but studies of the tunneling splitting patterns are still lacking. In this work we adopt the C_s symmetry equilibrium structure and apply a group-theoretical formalism to study the tunneling splitting pattern of the ground vibrational level of enolic acetylacetone. Enolic acetylacetone has three large-amplitude motions, one intramolecular hydrogen transfer and two methyl torsions. Therefore, the C_s structure of enolic acetylacetone has 18 (3 × 3 × 2) equivalent equilibrium molecular frameworks, nine (3 × 3) of them are from the two methyl torsions, and two are from the intramolecular hydrogen transfer. Tunneling motions among the 18 equivalent molecular frameworks split the ground vibrational level into eight sublevels: A₁, A₄, E₁, E₂, E₃, E₄, G(1) and G(2). In enolic acetylacetone the intramolecular hydrogen transfer induces a rearrangement of the CC, CO single and double bonds, and then triggers two additional 60° internal rotations, one in each of the two methyl groups attached to the hydrogen-bonded malonaldehyde ring. This interaction further complicates the tunneling splitting patterns and increases the difficulty of spectral analysis. In this work the influence of the intramolecular hydrogen transfer on the energy order of the eight sublevels is determined by a group-theoretical formalism.     

A new gravitational model for dark energy

A new gravitational model for dark energy is presented based on the model of de Sitter gauge theory of gravity.In the model,in addition to the cosmological constant,the homogeneous and isotropic torsion and its coupling with curvature play an important role for dark energy.The model may supply the universe with a natural transit from decelerating expansion to accelerating expansion.     

余模范畴中的余倾斜预包络和余倾斜挠类

众所周知,Assem-SmalΦ定理在倾斜理论中有重要的作用.本文的目的是建立一个在余模范畴中的Assem-SmalΦ定理的版本,并通过利用预包络理论来刻画余模范畴中的余倾斜挠类.     

调液阻尼器对结构扭转耦联振动控制的优化设计

提出了利用调液柱型阻尼器(Tuned Liquid Column Dampers,简称TLCD)和环形调液阻尼器(Circular Tuned Liquid Column Dampers,简称CTLCD)来控制偏心结构在多维地震作用下扭转耦联振动的方法。采用遗传算法,在双向地震作用下,对调液阻尼器的相关参数进行优化。选取了两种目标函数,一种只考虑最大的楼层反应,另一种考虑结构所有自由度的反应。用一个12层的偏心结构作为算例,进行优化计算,结果表明,采用第二种目标函数得到的阻尼器的参数,能有效降低结构的平动反应和扭转反应。
